Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 52) {بَلْ يُرِيْدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ … :} That is, even after the truth of the Noble Qur’an and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has become clear, each of them desires that a freshly written document be given to him, which has not even been folded yet, and that each of them should receive a formal letter from Allah Almighty stating that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is Our Messenger, so accept him. The second meaning is that these people, in their own opinion, are making themselves so great that they are not even ready to believe in the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and obey him; rather, their desire and demand is that each one of them should be made a prophet, be given a book, and that too, as a miracle, written on paper and revealed to them in an open state before everyone. But how can it be that every person is granted prophethood and a book? Allah Almighty said: « وَ اِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ اٰيَةٌ قَالُوْا لَنْ نُّؤْمِنَ حَتّٰى نُؤْتٰى مِثْلَ مَاۤ اُوْتِيَ رُسُلُ اللّٰهِ اَللّٰهُ اَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَالَتَهٗ» [ الأنعام : ۱۲۴ ] “And when a sign comes to them, they say, ‘We will never believe until we are given the like of what was given to Allah’s messengers.’ Allah knows best where to place His message.” A similar subject has also been mentioned in Surah Al-Furqan (21).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

52. 1. That is, in the hand of each person, an open book should be sent down from Allah in which it is written that Muhammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah. Some have explained its meaning as that they want deliverance from punishment without any action, that is, everyone should receive a certificate of salvation. (Ibn Kathir)

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

52. Rather, each one of them desires that he should be given an open book [24].

The Demand of the Qurayshi Chiefs That a Clear Letter Should Come in Our Name:

Each one of these Qurayshi chiefs desires that a clear letter should come from Allah in the name of each one of them, in which it is stated that I Myself have sent this person (i.e., Muhammad ﷺ) as My Messenger. Therefore, you should believe in him. Only in this case would they be able to believe.
