Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 9,8) ➊ { وَ اَنَّا لَمَسْنَا السَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدْنٰهَا مُلِئَتْ …:} Allah Almighty has made the stars not only an adornment of the sky but also a means of protection from those devils who try to approach the heavens to eavesdrop on the conversations of the angels. To drive them away, showers of meteors (flames) rain down on them from all sides. (See: As-Saffat: 6 to 10) Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ إِنَّ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ تَنْزِلُ فِي الْعَنَانِ وَهُوَ السَّحَابُ فَتَذْكُرُ الْأَمْرَ قُضِيَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، فَتَسْتَرِقُ الشَّيَاطِيْنُ السَّمْعَ، فَتَسْمَعُهُ فَتُوْحِيْهِ إِلَی الْكُهَّانِ، فَيَكْذِبُوْنَ مَعَهَا مِائَةَ كَذْبَةٍ مِّنْ عِنْدِ أَنْفُسِهِمْ ] [ بخاري، بدء الخلق، باب ذکر الملائکۃ صلوات اللّٰہ علیھم : ۳۲۱۰ ] "The angels descend into the clouds and mention among themselves the matters that have been decreed in the heavens, so the devils try to eavesdrop and hear it, then they secretly convey it to the soothsayers, and the soothsayers add a hundred lies from himself to it."

{مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيْدًا وَّ شُهُبًا :} Even before the Prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there was an arrangement for the protection of the higher realm, but the jinn would still manage to overhear something, and they would find some place to hide in the upper atmosphere. Now (after the Prophethood of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him), when they went up to listen, the entire upper atmosphere was filled with strict guards and a continuous shower of meteors. From {’’ مُلِئَتْ ‘‘} it is understood that now the system of guarding had become much stricter than before. This caused them distress, and they set out to find the reason for this arrangement, as has been mentioned in the context of the revelation of this Surah.

➌ From many verses of the Noble Qur’an, it is known that the jinn are a creation separate from humans, who were not created from clay but from fire, and who existed before the creation of humans. The jinn can approach the heavens and sometimes steal a word or two from the higher realm. To deny them by considering them a rebellious tribe or hidden germs among humans is to deny the Qur’an and Hadith. The basis for denying something on the grounds that if it existed, it would be visible, is a very weak basis. See also Surah Al-A’raf (38, 27), Hud (119), Ha Mim Sajdah (25, 29), and Surah Al-Ahqaf (18, 29, 32). The story of Adam and Iblis, which is mentioned in seven places in the Noble Qur’an, and the entire Surah Ar-Rahman, bear witness that jinn and humans are separate creations.

8. 1. That is, angels guard the heavens so that no one else can overhear anything from the heavens, and these stars fall as flames upon the devils who try to ascend to the heavens.
