(Ayah 4) ➊ The general meaning of { يَغْفِرْلَكُمْمِّنْذُنُوْبِكُمْ : ’’ مِنْ ‘‘} is "some," in which case the meaning would be "and He will forgive you some of your sins." But then the question arises: some sins still remain, what will happen to them? One answer is the one given by Imam Ibn Jarir Tabari (may Allah have mercy on him), that here {’’ مِنْ ‘‘ ’’عَنْ‘‘} has come in place of {’’جَمِيْعٌ‘‘} and is giving the meaning of {’’ يَغْفِرْ ‘‘}, as if within {’’يَصْفَحُ‘‘} and {’’يَعْفُوْ‘‘} the meaning is considered: {’’أَيْيَعْفُوْلَكُمْعَنْجَمِيْعِذُنُوْبِكُمْ‘‘} "That is, He will forgive you all your sins." The second is that it is in the meaning of {’’ مِنْ ‘‘ ’’ بَعْضٌ‘‘} itself, and the intent is that if you accept my invitation and bring faith, then your previous sins will be forgiven, because Islam erases all previous sins, but for the future, you must continue to avoid sins; do not mistakenly assume from this that you are no longer accountable for future sins.
➋ { وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْاِلٰۤىاَجَلٍمُّسَمًّى :} That is, the time of natural death is fixed; it does not come because of disbelief or not bringing faith, but it comes upon every believer and disbeliever. It will certainly come at its appointed time, but if you bring faith, Allah Almighty will protect you from the punishment that comes as a result of disbelief.
➌ { اِنَّاَجَلَاللّٰهِاِذَاجَآءَلَايُؤَخَّرُ … :} By this appointed time is meant the time which, in Allah Almighty's knowledge, is fixed for the punishment of a nation. If only you would be certain of this, that when that time comes, the respite will end, and then bringing faith will be of no benefit, so you should bring faith before that time.

Its meaning has been interpreted as: in the case of bringing faith, the appointed term of your death will be postponed and you will be granted more respite in life, and that punishment will be removed from you which, in the case of disbelief, was destined for you. In fact, it is bound to occur, therefore your betterment lies in immediately adopting the path of faith and obedience; delay is dangerous, lest you fall into the grip of the promised punishment of Allah.
