Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 9,8){ يَوْمَ تَكُوْنُ السَّمَآءُ كَالْمُهْلِ … : ’’ كَالْمُهْلِ ‘‘} That is, the sky will become like molten copper (red and hot, splitting apart). (See Rahman: 37) {’’اَلْعِهْنُ‘‘} Wool, that is, the mountains will become as light as carded wool and will begin to fly away. See Surah Ta-Ha (105) and Qari'ah (5).

8. The Day when the sky will be like molten copper [6].

[6] The meaning of ﴿مُهْل﴾ is both molten copper and the dregs of oil. Both of these substances have a reddish hue. That is, today the sky appears blue to us, but on that day it will begin to change its color, so that instead of being blue, it will become reddish.
