أَوَأَمِنَ أَهْلُ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ أَن يَأْتِيَهُم بَأْسُنَا ضُحًى وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ ﴿98﴾
Or, did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our punishment in the forenoon while they were playing?
أَوَأَمِنَ awa-amina Or felt secure

98. Or are they secure from the coming of Our punishment upon them in the forenoon while they are playing [102]?

[102] From these verses, one thing that is learned is that Allah's seizure or punishment comes suddenly, while people are completely heedless and unaware of it—whether this punishment comes during the day when people are busy with their businesses, work, or amusements, or whether it comes at night when they are sleeping in heedlessness. That is, like death, there is no fixed time for this punishment; in fact, the signs of death are sometimes felt, but such a seizure always comes unexpectedly. The second point is that when the same diseases and signs of disbelief, disobedience, and rebellion are found among these people for which previous nations were punished, then why can it not come upon them as well? Therefore, there is no reasonable cause for these people to be fearless.
