وَإِن كَانَ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنكُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِۦ وَطَآئِفَةٌ لَّمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ فَٱصْبِرُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَحْكُمَ ٱللَّهُ بَيْنَنَا ۚ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ ﴿87﴾
"And if there is a party of you who believe in that with which I have been sent and a party who do not believe, so be patient until Allâh judges between us, and He is the Best of judges."
وَإِن wa-in And if
كَانَ kāna (there) is
طَآئِفَةٌۭ ṭāifatun a group
مِّنكُمْ minkum among you
ءَامَنُوا۟ āmanū (who has) believed
بِٱلَّذِىٓ bi-alladhī in that which
أُرْسِلْتُ ur'sil'tu I have been sent
بِهِۦ bihi with [it]
وَطَآئِفَةٌۭ waṭāifatun and a group
لَّمْ lam not
يُؤْمِنُوا۟ yu'minū they believe
فَٱصْبِرُوا۟ fa-iṣ'birū then be patient
حَتَّىٰ ḥattā until
يَحْكُمَ yaḥkuma judges
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah
بَيْنَنَا ۚ baynanā between us
وَهُوَ wahuwa And He
خَيْرُ khayru (is the) Best
ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ l-ḥākimīna (of) [the] Judges

(Ayah 87){ فَاصْبِرُوْا حَتّٰى يَحْكُمَ اللّٰهُ:} This is not a command to them to be patient upon disbelief, rather they have been warned of Allah’s punishment, as stated elsewhere: «فَتَرَبَّصُوْۤا اِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُّتَرَبِّصُوْنَ۠» [ التوبۃ : ۵۲ ] “So wait; indeed, We (too) are waiting along with you.”

87. 1. There is no command to be patient over disbelief, rather for this there is warning and severe threat, because Allah’s decision is always that the people of truth will prevail over the people of falsehood. This is just as it is stated at another place (فَتَرَبَّصُوْٓا اِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُّتَرَبِّصُوْنَ) 9. At-Tawbah:52)

87. And if there is a group among you who has believed in what I have been sent with, and another group who has not believed, then be patient [92.1] until Allah judges between us, and He is the best of judges.

[92۔ 1] There were two purposes for these people sitting at the entrances to the city: first, wherever they found an opportunity, they would rob travelers and passersby; and second, they would prevent those who wanted to enter the city from going to Sayyiduna Shu‘ayb ؑ, misleading and threatening them, saying that this man is a deceiver and a fraud, do not listen to him nor fall for his tricks. They would also make hundreds of ignorant criticisms and accusations against his teachings and Shari‘ah, and would inflict various hardships on the few people who believed in Sayyiduna Shu‘ayb ؑ, trying to make them abandon their faith. Sayyiduna Shu‘ayb ؑ gently reminded these people of Allah’s favors upon them, then said that if a few people have believed, why do you trouble them? Whoever among us is lying, Allah Himself will deal with him—just be patient for a little while.
