Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 80) ➊ { وَ لُوْطًا:} When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) came out of the fire safely, Lut (peace be upon him) believed in him. Despite witnessing such a great miracle, when his people did not believe, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) chose to migrate from Iraq. See Surah Al-Ankabut (26). With him were his wife Sarah and Lut (peace be upon them). Allah Almighty sent Lut (peace be upon him) to the people of Sodom, who lived somewhere near the Dead Sea, and it was a very populated and fertile place.
{ اِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهٖۤ:} The people of Sodom are called the people of Lut (peace be upon him) because he was sent to them, otherwise he had come from Iraq, or perhaps he had an in-law relationship with them, because if he had any blood relation there, he would not have expressed such helplessness as mentioned in Surah Hud (80).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

80. 1. These were Prophet Lut (Lot) (AS), the nephew of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) (AS), and among those who believed in Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Then Allah Almighty sent him as a prophet to a region. This region was between Jordan and Bayt al-Maqdis, which was called Sodom. This land was lush and fertile, and there was abundance of all kinds of grains and fruits. The Quran has mentioned this place with the words مُئْوتَفِکَۃ, ُ or مؤْتَفِکَات, ُ. Prophet Lut (AS), most likely at the very beginning or along with the call to monotheism (which was the fundamental call of every prophet and which they would first present to their people, as can be seen in the references to previous prophets just mentioned), identified and explained the evil of the major corruption among the people of Lut, which was men committing indecency with men. The reason for this seems to be that this is a sin which was first committed in the world by the people of Lut, and the act itself became known as "Liwat." Therefore, it was deemed appropriate to first warn the people about the danger of this crime. Moreover, the call to monotheism would have already reached here through Prophet Ibrahim (AS). There is a difference of opinion among the Imams regarding the punishment for liwat: according to some Imams, its punishment is the same as that for adultery, i.e., if the offender is married, then stoning to death (rajm), and if unmarried, then one hundred lashes. According to others, its punishment is only stoning to death (rajm), regardless of the offender's status, and according to some, both the active and passive participants should be killed. However, Imam Abu Hanifa is of the opinion that only a discretionary (ta'zir) punishment should be given, not a fixed (hadd) punishment.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

80. And [remember] when Lot said to his people [85]: "You commit such indecency as no one in all the worlds has ever done before you."

The Center of Preaching of Sayyiduna Lut (Lot) ؑ:

Sayyiduna Lut ؑ was the nephew of Sayyiduna Ibrahim (Abraham) ؑ, the Friend of Allah, and he had believed in him. When Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ migrated from Iraq towards Syria and Palestine, Sayyiduna Lut ؑ was with him and continued to perform the duty of assisting in the preaching of the message. Then he too was granted prophethood. Now, Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ went towards Egypt, and Sayyiduna Lut ؑ was sent towards the east of Jordan, whose capital city was called Sodom. This was the center of preaching for Sayyiduna Lut ؑ. Today, there is no trace of Sodom to be found anywhere. The prevailing opinion is that this city was submerged in the Dead Sea, which is also called the Sea of Lut. Among the other moral evils of the people of Lut, the greatest evil was that instead of women, they would fulfill their sexual desires with men, in their backsides. This nation was the originator of this obscenity, and in this obscenity, this nation gained everlasting notoriety. So much so that the very name of this obscenity became associated with the people of Lut, and it came to be called "liwatat" (sodomy).
