Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 72) {وَ قَطَعْنَا دَابِرَ الَّذِيْنَ كَذَّبُوْا …… :} Allah Almighty has described in detail in other places in the Noble Qur’an the manner in which they were destroyed. For example, in Surah Qamar (18 to 20), Surah Dhariyat (41, 42), and Surah Haqqah (6 to 8), it is mentioned that Allah Almighty sent upon them a stormy wind which continued for seven nights and eight days without pause. That wind was so fierce and intense that whatever it passed over, it shattered to pieces, until it destroyed them by striking them down repeatedly. Their corpses appeared as if they were hollow trunks of date palms. The Qur’an has stated here and in other places as well that not a trace of the first ‘Ad was left behind. It is said: «فَهَلْ تَرٰى لَهُمْ مِّنْۢ بَاقِيَةٍ » [ الحاقۃ : ۸ ] “So do you see any remnant of them?” Arab historians have also unanimously counted them among the ‘Arab Ba’idah’ (those who have perished). Only Hud (peace be upon him) and his followers were saved from this punishment, and according to some, their descendants became known as “Ad Thaniyyah.” Some ancient relics also provide information about them.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

72. 1. A torment of a violent wind came upon this nation, which continued for seven nights and eight days without interruption, destroying everything and leaving nothing intact. And these were the people of 'Ad, who were very proud of their strength; their corpses could be seen lying on the ground like cut-off trunks of palm trees. (See Surah Al-Haqqah 6-8, Surah Hud 53-56, Surah Al-Ahqaf 42-25 verses)

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

Then We saved him and his companions by Our mercy [76], and We uprooted those who denied Our signs and were not believers.

The Punishment of a Cold Wind Upon the People of ‘Ad:

When the rebellion of this people reached its peak and Prophet Hud ؑ, by Allah’s command, challenged them with the coming punishment, a fierce wind descended upon them, which was intensely cold. This wind penetrated even their underground dwellings and continued relentlessly for eight days and seven nights, destroying every single individual of that nation within their own homes. That people, who were proud of their strength and stature, lay fallen in their houses like hollow trunks of date palms. In this way, the very trace of that nation was wiped from the face of existence. As for those few who had believed in our master Hud ؑ, he had already been informed by revelation of the coming punishment. He, along with his followers, took refuge in an enclosure that was outside the reach of the wind, and thus they remained safe and secure. The people of Thamud, who are also called ‘Ad Thaniyyah, were born from their descendants, and their mention is to come ahead.
