قَالَ قَدْ وَقَعَ عَلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ رِجْسٌ وَغَضَبٌ ۖ أَتُجَـٰدِلُونَنِى فِىٓ أَسْمَآءٍ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُم مَّا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَا مِن سُلْطَـٰنٍ ۚ فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟ إِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ ﴿71﴾
(Hûd) said: "Torment and wrath have already fallen on you from your Lord. Dispute you with me over names which you have named - you and your fathers - with no authority from Allâh? Then wait, I am with you among those who wait."
قَالَ qāla He said
قَدْ qad Verily
وَقَعَ waqaʿa has fallen
عَلَيْكُم ʿalaykum upon you
مِّن min from
رَّبِّكُمْ rabbikum your Lord
رِجْسٌۭ rij'sun punishment
وَغَضَبٌ ۖ waghaḍabun and anger
أَتُجَـٰدِلُونَنِى atujādilūnanī Do you dispute with me
فِىٓ concerning
أَسْمَآءٍۢ asmāin names
سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ sammaytumūhā you have named them
أَنتُمْ antum you
وَءَابَآؤُكُم waābāukum and your forefathers
مَّا Not
نَزَّلَ nazzala (has been) sent down
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu (by) Allah
بِهَا bihā for it
مِن min any
سُلْطَـٰنٍۢ ۚ sul'ṭānin authority
فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟ fa-intaẓirū Then wait
إِنِّى innī indeed, I am
مَعَكُم maʿakum with you
مِّنَ mina of
ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ l-muntaẓirīna the ones who wait

(Ayah 71) ➊ { اَتُجَادِلُوْنَنِيْ فِيْۤ اَسْمَآءٍ سَمَّيْتُمُوْهَاۤ اَنْتُمْ وَ اٰبَآؤُكُمْ:} You call someone the god of rain, someone the god of wind, someone the god of wealth, and someone the god of illness, whereas in reality none of these is actually a god of anything; these are merely names, there is no reality behind them.
{مَا نَزَّلَ اللّٰهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطٰنٍ:} That is, He has never said anywhere that I have transferred such divine powers to so-and-so, and made so-and-so the remover of difficulties, so-and-so the granter of treasures, so-and-so the succorer, so-and-so the supporter, and so-and-so the provider; these and such titles have been fabricated by people and attributed to these revered personalities, which have become causes of shirk.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. 71. 1. The meaning of 'رِجْس' is impurity. But here it is a derivative (changed form) of رِجْز, whose meaning is punishment. Or, رِجْس here means displeasure and wrath (Ibn Kathir).

By this are meant the names which they had given to their deities, for example, Sada, Samud, Huba, etc., just as the people of Nuh had five idols whose names Allah has mentioned in the Quran, and just as the idols of the polytheists of Arabia had names: Lat, Uzza, Manat, Hubal, etc. Or, as nowadays, people involved in polytheistic beliefs and practices have given names, for example, Data Ganj Bakhsh, Khwaja Ghareeb Nawaz, Baba Farid Shakar Ganj, Mushkil Kusha, etc., for whom there is no evidence that they are deities or removers of difficulties or granters of treasures, etc.

(Hud) said, “Indeed, punishment and wrath from your Lord have already fallen upon you. Do you dispute with me regarding names which you and your forefathers have named [75], for which Allah has sent down no authority? Then wait, for I too am waiting with you.”

There is No Scholarly Proof of Delegating Powers to Anyone:

Hudؑ replied to the chiefs of the nation that when your rebellion and insolent shamelessness have reached such a level, then understand that now Allah’s punishment is about to befall you. As for your deities, some of whom you call the god of rain, some the god of winds, some the god of crops, some the god of health, and some the god of wealth, these names have been invented by you or your forefathers themselves. Nowhere in any heavenly book or scripture is it mentioned that Allah has delegated such and such powers to such and such being, or authority over such and such things to such and such being. Among us as well, such names are found in abundance, for example, such and such elder is Ghous (the one who helps in distress), such and such saint is Data, such and such is Ganj Bakhsh, such and such is Mushkil Kusha (the remover of difficulties). The only difference is that the polytheists of that era attributed such qualities to gods, goddesses, angels, or certain spirits, while in our time these qualities are attributed to elders, whether they are alive or have passed away. Allah Almighty says that there is no proof in the divine law for such things, that My such and such saint or elder can be a remover of difficulties and that I have granted him such powers.
