Indeed, We sent Nûh (Noah) to his people and he said: "O my people! Worship Allâh! You have no other Ilâh (God) but Him. (Lâ ilâha illallâh: none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh). Certainly, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day!"

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 59) { لَقَدْاَرْسَلْنَانُوْحًااِلٰىقَوْمِهٖ:} It has been stated above that there are two types of people when it comes to benefiting from divine guidance and its blessings: one is those of pure nature (Tayyib), who themselves benefit from divine guidance and its blessings, and others also benefit from their knowledge and actions; the second are those who are mischievous and of evil nature, who, instead of benefiting from the rain of guidance, emerge as thorns and bushes, and since the land of their hearts is barren, the rain of mercy cannot be as beneficial for them. After this, from here, as historical evidence, the incidents of the previous nations are mentioned, as if presenting historical proof that people have always been of two types. (Kabir) Since Nuh (peace be upon him) was the first messenger prophet sent to a polytheistic nation, as is known from the Hadith of the Great Intercession (Bukhari: 4712) and some other narrations, therefore Allah Almighty first mentioned his story. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says that (the idols mentioned in Surah Nuh) Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr were the names of righteous people; when they passed away, Satan inspired their people to install their statues in the gatherings where they used to sit and to name them after them, until when that generation passed away and knowledge was lost, their worship began. [ بخاری، التفسیر، باب : { ودا ولا سواعا ولا يغوث و يعوق} : ۴۹۲۰ ] It is known from history books that the people of Nuh lived in Iraq, and their era was from 3800 to 2800 BC, but there is no evidence for the authenticity of this period.

We sent Noah to his people, and he said: "O my people! Worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous [63] Day."
[63] How Did Shirk Begin Before the Advent of Sayyiduna Nuh (A.S.)?
After the passing of Sayyiduna Adam (A.S.), his progeny remained steadfast on the path of guidance for a long time, then gradually corruption began to appear among them, and it has already been mentioned that the foundation of corruption on earth is based on shirk. According to the narration of Ibn Abbas (R.A.), the beginning of this shirk happened in such a way that, from time to time, five elders and pious people from among that nation passed away, whose very sight would remind people of Allah Almighty. When these elders died, the worshippers felt their absence deeply. Satan deceived them by suggesting that if they made statues of these elders and placed them before themselves, they could attain the desired benefit, and their hearts would remain attached to the worship of Allah just as they were in the presence of these elders. The simple-minded people fell for this deception of Satan and made statues of these five elders, placing them before themselves in their mosques. These people, upon seeing these statues, continued to worship only Allah, but the generations that came after them began to worship these very statues. When Sayyiduna Nuh (A.S.) was sent, his nation was deeply involved in the worship of these five elders, whose names—Wadd, Suwa', Yaghuth, Ya'uq, and Nasr—are mentioned in Surah Nuh. [ بخاري۔ كتاب التفسير۔ تفسير سورة نوح]
The Center of Preaching of Sayyiduna Nuh (A.S.):
The center of Nuh's (A.S.) call was the region of Iraq, and probably at that time, this was the only area of the world inhabited by humans. Initially, the area between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers became the center of his preaching. Except for Sayyiduna Adam (A.S.), the call of all other prophets began with the prohibition of shirk and the pure worship of Allah, and Sayyiduna Nuh (A.S.) also began the reformation of a corrupted society with this very call. Along with this, he warned that if you do not refrain from shirk, a severe punishment will befall you.
