Surah Al-A'raaf (7) — Ayah 44

وَنَادَىٰٓ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ أَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ أَن قَدْ وَجَدْنَا مَا وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنَا حَقًّا فَهَلْ وَجَدتُّم مَّا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا ۖ قَالُوا۟ نَعَمْ ۚ فَأَذَّنَ مُؤَذِّنٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ أَن لَّعْنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ﴿44﴾
And the dwellers of Paradise will call out to the dwellers of the Fire (saying): "We have indeed found true what our Lord had promised us; have you also found true, what your Lord promised (warnings)?" They shall say: "Yes." Then a crier will proclaim between them: "The Curse of Allâh is on the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers)."
وَنَادَىٰٓ wanādā And will call out
أَصْحَـٰبُ aṣḥābu (the) companions
ٱلْجَنَّةِ l-janati (of) Paradise
أَصْحَـٰبَ aṣḥāba (to the) companions
ٱلنَّارِ l-nāri (of) the Fire
أَن an that
قَدْ qad Indeed
وَجَدْنَا wajadnā we found
مَا what
وَعَدَنَا waʿadanā (had) promised us
رَبُّنَا rabbunā our Lord
حَقًّۭا ḥaqqan true
فَهَلْ fahal So have
وَجَدتُّم wajadttum you found
مَّا what
وَعَدَ waʿada (was) promised
رَبُّكُمْ rabbukum (by) your Lord
حَقًّۭا ۖ ḥaqqan (to be) true
قَالُوا۟ qālū They will say
نَعَمْ ۚ naʿam Yes
فَأَذَّنَ fa-adhana Then will announce
مُؤَذِّنٌۢ mu-adhinun an announcer
بَيْنَهُمْ baynahum among them
أَن an [that]
لَّعْنَةُ laʿnatu (The) curse
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah
عَلَى ʿalā (is) on
ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ l-ẓālimīna the wrongdoers

(Ayah 44) {وَ نَادٰۤى اَصْحٰبُ الْجَنَّةِ …… :} The people of Paradise will say these words to the people of Hell to increase their regret and remorse, and to cool their own hearts and take revenge: «فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُوْنَ(34)عَلَى الْاَرَآىِٕكِ يَنْظُرُوْنَ(35)هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوْا يَفْعَلُوْنَ » [ المطففین : ۳۴ تا ۳۶ ] “So today, those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, sitting on thrones, observing. Have the disbelievers been repaid for what they used to do?” These are exactly the words that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the slain idolaters of Badr. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding twenty-four leaders of Quraysh on the day of Badr, so they were thrown into a filthy well at Badr. On the third day, he (peace and blessings be upon him) rode his camel and went towards it, stood at the edge of the well, and his companions were with him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) began to call them by name, one by one: “O so-and-so son of so-and-so! O so-and-so son of so-and-so! Would you not have liked that you had obeyed Allah and His Messenger? For we have indeed found what our Lord promised us to be true, so have you also found what your Lord promised you to be true?” Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Are you speaking to bodies that have no souls?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: “You do not hear what I am saying to them any better than they do.” Qatadah said that Allah gave them life until He made them hear your words for the purpose of rebuke, humiliation, revenge, and regret and remorse. 44. 1 This is the same thing that the Prophet said to the disbelievers who were killed in the Battle of Badr and whose corpses were thrown into a well. Addressing them, he said this, upon which Umar said, "You are addressing people who have perished." The Prophet ﷺ said, "By Allah, they are hearing what I am saying better than you, but now they do not have the power to respond." (Sahih Muslim)

44. And the people of Paradise will call out to the people of the Fire, "We have indeed found true what our Lord promised us; have you also found true what your Lord promised you?" They will reply [43.1], "Yes!" Then a caller will proclaim among them, "The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers."

[43۔ 1] There will be such a vast distance between Paradise and Hell that it is impossible for us to even imagine it in this world, and from this verse of the Quran and some other verses, the conversation between the people of Paradise and the people of Hell is also established. From this, several things become evident; for example, one is that in that other life, the auditory and visual faculties that people will be granted will be much stronger than those in the present life. Secondly, the communication system there will also be much more effective than the system of this world. In the present era, we can listen to and see the conversations of people from distant countries of the world on television, and in that other life, it will be such that if any of the people of Paradise remember their companions who were disbelievers and deserving of Hell and wish to speak to them, not only will the image of them and their conditions appear before them, but they will also be able to converse with each other while sitting in their respective places. This Surah is Makki, and at this point, those people of Hell who are mentioned are probably the same ones who used to consider the Muslims as insignificant creatures and used to swear that such people could never be deserving of Allah’s grace and mercy. Such weak and poor Muslims, after finding comfort in Paradise, will wish to converse with those arrogant companions who used to consider them insignificant. Then, the same conversation will take place as is mentioned in this verse, and this dialogue is mentioned here to admonish such people and to increase regret and despair in this world, and such wrongdoers are cursed in this world as well as in the Hereafter.
