Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 178) {مَنْيَّهْدِاللّٰهُفَهُوَالْمُهْتَدِيْ … :} The light of guidance is a gift from Allah Almighty; He is its Owner, He grants it to whomever He wills and withholds it from whomever He wills, and that person continues to wander in the darkness of misguidance. This is the matter of predestination; it is obligatory to have faith in it, and it is also obligatory to have faith that if He does not grant guidance to someone, He is not unjust, because the Owner may give His possession to whomever He wills and withhold it from whomever He wills, and He is such an Owner that no one even dares to question Him. He said: «{ لَايُسْـَٔلُعَمَّايَفْعَلُوَهُمْيُسْـَٔلُوْنَ }»[ الأنبیاء : ۲۳ ] "He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned." Yes, it is certain that whatever He has done is absolute justice, because He does not commit even the slightest injustice. He said: «{ وَمَارَبُّكَبِظَلَّامٍلِّلْعَبِيْدِ }»[ حٰمٓ السجدۃ : ۴۶ ] "And your Lord is never unjust to the servants." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say in every sermon after praise and glorification: [ مَنْيَّهْدِهِاللّٰهُفَلَامُضِلَّلَهُوَمَنْيُّضْلِلْفَلَاهَادِيَلَهُ ][ مسلم، الجمعۃ، باب تخفیف الصلاۃ والخطبۃ :۸۶۸، عن ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنھما ] "Whomever Allah guides, none can misguide him, and whomever He leads astray, none can guide him to the straight path."

178. Whoever Allah guides, only he is rightly guided; and whoever He lets go astray, such are the losers.
[178] Knowledge Can Also Become a Cause of Misguidance:
That is, a person’s knowledge and excellence can only benefit him when he is also granted the ability from Allah to act upon that knowledge. Therefore, no one should be proud of his intellectual capability and superiority. Rather, one should continue to pray to Allah Almighty for protection from the crookedness of intellect and for the ability to walk on the straight path. Because Satan can also mislead people through the path of knowledge, as evidenced by the fact that the leaders of all misguided sects are generally intelligent, clever, and learned individuals.
