Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
And (remember) when your Lord declared that He would certainly keep on sending against them (i.e. the Jews), till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with a humiliating torment. Verily, your Lord is Quick in Retribution (for the disobedient, wicked) and certainly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (for the obedient and those who beg Allâh’s Forgiveness).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 167) {وَاِذْتَاَذَّنَرَبُّكَلَيَبْعَثَنَّ … :} In the previous verses, the trials of the Jews with ease and hardship and some of their good and bad deeds were mentioned. Now, in this verse, it is stated that until the Day of Resurrection, such people will continue to be imposed upon them who will make them taste the worst torment. In Surah Al-Imran (112), it is stated that humiliation has been imposed upon them except with Allah’s protection and the protection of people. See the commentary of the mentioned verse. The entire history of the Jews is a living testimony to this reality; in every era, wherever they lived, they remained subjugated and enslaved by others, and from time to time, such rulers were imposed upon them who made them the target of oppression and cruelty. See Surah Bani Isra’il (4 to 8). In recent times, the treatment meted out to them by Hitler is not hidden from anyone. Even if, in some places, they temporarily attained peace and security and established a nominal government, it was not by their own strength but entirely by the support of others.
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
167. 1. That is, also remember the time! When your Lord had fully informed or made clear to these Jews, that is, Allah is swearing with utmost emphasis that He will continue to impose upon them, until the Day of Resurrection, such people who will keep subjecting them to severe torment. Indeed, the entire history of the Jews is a history of this humiliation, misery, slavery, and subjugation, as Allah has mentioned in this verse. The current government of Israel is not contrary to this reality stated by the Quran, because it is the manifestation of the exception stated by the Quran itself, وَحَبْلٍمِنَاالنَّاسِ, which is not against the Quranic reality but rather supports it. (For details, see the footnote of Al Imran: 112)
167. 2. That is, if any of them repents and becomes a Muslim, he will be saved from humiliation and disgrace.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
167. And (remember) when your Lord declared [169] that He would surely send against the Children of Israel, until the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with the worst torment." Indeed, your Lord is swift in punishment (when the appointed time comes), and indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.
[169] The Historical Account of the Humiliation and Misery of the Jews:
The Arabic word "ta'adhdhana" has the same meaning as the notice given in our context, that is, Allah Almighty had warned the Jews that if they did not desist from their actions, He would impose upon them, until the Day of Judgment, such rulers who would continue to inflict various kinds of suffering upon them. These sufferings refer to their subjugated life; thus, the Jews were at times subjugated by Greek and Chaldean kings, at times became the target of the hardships of Nebuchadnezzar, who utterly destroyed Bayt al-Maqdis and took a large number of these Jews as slaves with him to Babylon. Then, before the Prophetic era, these people remained tributaries to the Magians. Then Allah imposed Muslim rulers over them. In short, despite being a wealthy nation, they could never attain a life of honor anywhere and always lived a life of humiliation as subjugated people. In the early twentieth century, they were severely beaten at the hands of Hitler, who mercilessly killed millions of Jews. In the middle of this very twentieth century, with the support of a few governments, they established their rule over a small area. Yet, even then, they did not attain peace, and near the Day of Judgment, when Dajjal will appear, they will be his helpers; then, at the hands of Sayyiduna ‘Isa ؑ and his Muslim companions, all of them will be put to the sword, as is evident from numerous authentic ahadith.
