Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 129) ➊ {قَالُوْا اُوْذِيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِ … : } Even before, our children used to be killed, we were made to do hard labor, and our freedom was taken away; now, even after your arrival, the same slavery and hardship remain, and once again decisions are being made to kill our children.

{ فَيَنْظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُوْنَ:} Musa (peace be upon him) gave glad tidings that soon your Lord will destroy your enemy and grant you freedom and rule, and He will see whether you are grateful and obey His commands or whether you too become ungrateful and disobedient. It is evident that freedom and rule are great blessings from Allah Almighty. It does not befit a Muslim to be content with the slavery of disbelievers. Shah Abdul Qadir (may Allah have mercy on him) says: “This statement was narrated for the Muslims to hear; this Surah is Makki, at that time the Muslims were also similarly oppressed, then glad tidings were given in a veiled manner.” (Mawdhih)

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

129. 1 This is a reference to the oppressions that were inflicted upon them before the birth of Musa (عليه السلام).
129. 2 After the incident of the magicians, this new phase of oppression and tyranny began, which started after the coming of Musa (عليه السلام).
129. 3 Musa (عليه السلام) consoled them that do not worry, very soon Allah will destroy your enemy, grant you authority in the land, and then a new phase of your trial will begin. Right now, you are being tested through hardships; then, by showering blessings and honors and granting you power and authority, you will be tested.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

129. They said to Moses: "We were harmed before you came to us and after you came." Moses replied: "Soon your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the land, then He will see how you act." [126]

Trials Upon the Children of Israel, Exhortation to Patience, and the Promise of Victory and Help:

When the Children of Israel were once again subjected to such a severe trial, they became extremely distressed and, in their plea, said to Sayyiduna Musa ؑ that even before your coming, we were subjected to the same oppression and tyranny, and now, even after believing in you, we are once again enduring the same oppression and tyranny. Musa ؑ, exhorting them to patience, said that Allah Almighty breaks the tyranny of such oppressors; you must continue to seek help from Allah. Soon, He will destroy your enemy and grant you sovereignty in this land. Then you will be tested in a different manner. Today, your trial is through hardships and oppression, to see whether you endure with patience or not. Then, after granting you sovereignty, He will see how you act as rulers. It should be clear that in the era in which this Surah was revealed, the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all) were also passing through similar times of trials and hardships, and, as the saying goes, “what is said about others applies to oneself,” the Companions ؓ were also being exhorted to patience and were being promised the granting of sovereignty.
