The Regret and Despair of the One Who Receives His Record in His Left Hand:
Just as a believer, upon dying, begins to receive clear signs of what his end will be like, in the same way, the deniers of Allah also begin to realize their fate at the time of death. When his record of deeds is given to him in his left hand, he will say with utmost regret and despair that if only I had been given the punishment for my deeds without being handed my record of deeds, and thus I would not have been disgraced in front of everyone. And the reality is that I could never believe that my record of deeds was being preserved with such care. How good it would have been if, with my death, my entire story had ended—neither would I be given life again, nor would I have to see this day. Today, it is not even possible for me to ransom myself by offering the wealth I left behind in the world.
