فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَجَعَلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ﴿50﴾
Then his Lord chose him and made him of the righteous.
فَٱجْتَبَـٰهُ fa-ij'tabāhu But chose him
رَبُّهُۥ rabbuhu his Lord
فَجَعَلَهُۥ fajaʿalahu and made him
مِنَ mina of
ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ l-ṣāliḥīna the righteous

(Ayah 50){ فَاجْتَبٰىهُ رَبُّهٗ فَجَعَلَهٗ مِنَ الصّٰلِحِيْنَ :} He was already chosen, but now his rank was further elevated and he was included among the highest ranks of righteous and pious servants. It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ مَا يَنْبَغِيْ لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَّقُوْلَ إِنِّيْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ يُوْنُسَ بْنِ مَتّٰی ] [ بخاري، الأنبیاء، باب قول اللّٰہ تعالٰی: « و إن یونس…» : ۳۴۱۳] "It is not befitting for any servant to say that I am better than Yunus bin Matta."

50. 1. This means that after making him strong and healthy again, he was granted messengership once more and sent to his people, as is also clear from (وَاَنْۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّنْ يَّقْطِيْنٍ 146؀ۚ) 37. As-Saffat:146).

50. So their Lord chose him [27] and included him among the righteous.
