Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
Had not a Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been (left in the stomach of the fish, but We forgave him): so he was cast off on the naked shore, while he was to be blamed.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 49){ لَوْلَاۤاَنْتَدٰرَكَهٗنِعْمَةٌمِّنْرَّبِّهٖ … :} If Yunus (peace be upon him) had not engaged in tasbih and istighfar, he would have remained in the belly of the fish until the Day of Resurrection. (See As-Saffat: 143, 144) After the tasbih, the decree of perpetual confinement was lifted, but the deficiency in rank and the blame he deserved due to his mistake—if his Lord’s favor had not supported him and his mistake had not been forgiven, and he had been cast onto the barren land in that state, then he would have been blameworthy. However, after all shortcomings were compensated by the divine favor, when he was cast onto the barren land, he was not blameworthy but rather praiseworthy.

The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
49. 1. That is, if Allah Almighty had not granted him the ability to repent and supplicate, and had not accepted his prayer, then instead of the seashore where a gourd vine was grown for his shade and food, he would have been cast into some barren land, and in the sight of Allah his status would have remained blameworthy, whereas after the acceptance of the prayer, he became praiseworthy.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
49. Had it not been for the favor of his Lord that rescued him, he would have surely been cast out in disgrace upon a barren plain [26].
[26] The fish did not make you its food. Rather, it spat you out completely safe and sound on the shore in a barren field. This was the result of the supplication you kept making in the belly of the fish. It is as if your prayer was answered and you were granted life again. Allah Almighty also provided such means that within a few days your weakness was removed and your health was restored. And this was an additional kindness and grace from Allah Almighty.
