أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَـٰبٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ ﴿37﴾
Or have you a Book wherein you learn,
أَمْ am Or
لَكُمْ lakum (is) for you
كِتَـٰبٌۭ kitābun a book
فِيهِ fīhi wherein
تَدْرُسُونَ tadrusūna you learn

(Ayah 38,37) ➊ { اَمْ لَكُمْ كِتٰبٌ فِيْهِ تَدْرُسُوْنَ … :} The disbelievers who used to say that they would also receive Paradise and blessings in the Hereafter, this claim is refuted in another way: It is said, how did you come to know this? If you say that Allah Himself has told you, then tell us, which Book from Allah do you possess in which you have read that in the Hereafter you will get only what you desire? It is clear that you have no such Book, nor does your assumption have any reality.
{’’ تَخَيَّرُوْنَ ‘‘} is from the form of باب تفعّل, one تاء has been omitted. {’’تَتَخَيَّرُوْنَ‘‘} becomes a sentence and is the object of {’’ تَدْرُسُوْنَ ‘‘}. The hamzah of {’’ اِنَّ ‘‘} should have been with a fatḥah, but due to the coming of lām on {’’ تَخَيَّرُوْنَ ‘‘}, it became kasrah. The translation will be: "Do you have a Book in which you read that for you in the Hereafter there will be only what you desire?"

Refutation of the Misconception in Three Ways:

In verses 37 to 41, three different scenarios are mentioned, which serve as transmitted proofs refuting their false belief, and they are as follows:
1. Is it written in any revealed book that in the Hereafter you will also have a life of comfort and prosperity, as you desire?
2. Or have you taken some such oaths from Us that on the Day of Resurrection you will get exactly what you want and desire such a decision in your favor? If this is the case, then tell us who among you is responsible and guarantor to have these oaths fulfilled by Us?
3. The third possibility could be that some of their deities are partners with Allah in His works. If this is the case, then prove the partnership of these partners in the universe and their authority in the affairs of the universe. Then, when none of these things are true, on what basis are they sitting in hope that they will have comfort and prosperity in the life of the Hereafter?
