Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 11) {هَمَّازٍ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيْمٍ: ’’ هَمَّازٍ ‘‘ ’’هَمَزَ يَهْمُزُ هَمْزًا‘‘} (ن) is an intensive form, meaning one who greatly taunts, one who greatly finds faults. {’’ مَشَّآءٍ‘‘ ’’مَشٰي يَمْشِيْ مَشْيًا‘‘} (ض) (to walk) is an intensive form, meaning one who walks a lot, one who makes great efforts. {’’نَمِيْمٌ‘‘} is tale-bearing; that is, to convey someone's words to another person with the intention of causing discord or harm. The summary of both these qualities is finding faults in others. {’’ هَمَّازٍ ‘‘} is one who finds faults and taunts others to their face. {’’ مَشَّآءٍ بِنَمِيْمٍ ‘‘} is one who engages in tale-bearing. That is, if possible, he boldly taunts and finds faults to the face, and if not possible, he continues his efforts behind the back.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

A slanderer, going about with malicious gossip [9].

[9] In verses 10 to 13, the moral condition of a chief among the disbelievers is presented in opposition to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and there was no need to mention his name because there was only one person with such characteristics. By reading these qualities, everyone would know towards whom these verses are directed, and this is a sign of the utmost wisdom of the Quran: that without naming an evil person, he is identified merely through his attributes, and everyone understands that whoever possesses these qualities is the owner of such character.
