Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 9){ يٰۤاَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ وَ الْمُنٰفِقِيْنَ … :} In the previous verses, the abode of the believers was mentioned; now, the matter of the disbelievers in this world and the Hereafter is described: in this world, they are to be fought against and dealt with harshly, with no kind of compromise or overlooking, so that the word of Islam remains exalted and these people live their lives in submission to it. In the Hereafter, their abode is Hell, and it is a very evil abode. For the meaning of jihad against the hypocrites, see the commentary of Surah At-Tawbah (73).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

9. 1. Jihad with the disbelievers is with fighting, and with the hypocrites, by establishing the limits of Allah upon them when they commit acts that necessitate the prescribed punishments.

9. 2. That is, in invitation and preaching, adopt severity and harshness in the commands of Shariah, because these are brutes who will not accept through words. This means that the wisdom of preaching sometimes requires gentleness and sometimes severity; gentleness is not appropriate everywhere, nor is severity always beneficial. In preaching and invitation, depending on the circumstances and individuals, there is a need to use either gentleness or severity.

9. 3. That is, the abode of both the disbelievers and the hypocrites is Hell.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

9. O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern with them. Their refuge is Hell [20], and what an evil destination it is.

[20] The exact words of this verse are the same as those in Surah At-Tawbah, verse number 73. Therefore, its explanation should be seen under footnote number 88 of Surah At-Tawbah.
