يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطْفِـُٔوا۟ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِۦ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ ﴿8﴾
They intend to put out the Light of Allâh (i.e. the Religion of Islâm, this Qur’ân, and the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) with their mouths. But Allâh will bring His Light to perfection even though the disbelievers hate (it).
يُرِيدُونَ yurīdūna They intend
لِيُطْفِـُٔوا۟ liyuṭ'fiū to put out
نُورَ nūra (the) light
ٱللَّهِ l-lahi (of) Allah
بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ bi-afwāhihim with their mouths
وَٱللَّهُ wal-lahu but Allah
مُتِمُّ mutimmu will perfect
نُورِهِۦ nūrihi His Light
وَلَوْ walaw although
كَرِهَ kariha dislike
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ l-kāfirūna the disbelievers

They wish to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even though the disbelievers may dislike it [10].

The Schemes of Enemy Nations to Annihilate Islam:

The addressees of this verse are all the nations hostile to Islam, whether they are Christians, Jews, polytheists, or hypocrites. Until the conquest of Makkah, all these powers believed that Islam was merely a flickering lamp that could be extinguished by a single gust of wind—and would indeed be extinguished. In fact, even after the conquest of Makkah, this impression did not completely disappear. After the conquest of Makkah, the tribes of Thaqif and Hawazin waged war with the intention of wiping out Islam. Then, after that, a Christian monk named ‘Amir conspired with the hypocrites of Madinah and set out to incite the Caesar of Rome to attack the Muslims. As a result, the Battle of Tabuk took place. According to narrations, at that time, it was expected that an army of two hundred thousand Christians would arrive. But Allah did not even grant them the ability to come to the battlefield. All the forces hostile to Islam, from the very beginning, continued to burn with jealousy and rage, and in the end, the result was that the light of Islam spread throughout all of Arabia and then the entire world. It should be noted that these verses were revealed at a time when the future of Islam was completely uncertain, and some neutral tribes were waiting to see which way the camel would sit.
