Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 12) ➊ { يَغْفِرْلَكُمْذُنُوْبَكُمْوَيُدْخِلْكُمْجَنّٰتٍتَجْرِيْمِنْتَحْتِهَاالْاَنْهٰرُ:’’ يَغْفِرْ ‘‘} and {’’يُدْخِلْ‘‘} have a jazm because they are the response to {’’ تُؤْمِنُوْنَ ‘‘} and {’’ تُجَاهِدُوْنَ ‘‘}, as they are in the meaning of command, and when a present tense verb comes as a response to a command, it takes jazm. ➋ {وَمَسٰكِنَطَيِّبَةًفِيْجَنّٰتِعَدْنٍ: ’’ مَسٰكِنَطَيِّبَةً ‘‘} is mentioned specifically because among the most beloved things to a person is his dwelling, and jihad is not possible without leaving it. Allah Almighty has given the glad tidings of {’’ مَسٰكِنَطَيِّبَةً ‘‘} in exchange for leaving their beloved dwellings, which have the quality of permanence, whereas the dwellings of this world do not remain with anyone. In Surah At-Tawbah, He said: «قُلْاِنْكَانَاٰبَآؤُكُمْوَاَبْنَآؤُكُمْوَاِخْوَانُكُمْوَاَزْوَاجُكُمْوَعَشِيْرَتُكُمْوَاَمْوَالٌاقْتَرَفْتُمُوْهَاوَتِجَارَةٌتَخْشَوْنَكَسَادَهَاوَمَسٰكِنُتَرْضَوْنَهَاۤاَحَبَّاِلَيْكُمْمِّنَاللّٰهِوَرَسُوْلِهٖوَجِهَادٍفِيْسَبِيْلِهٖفَتَرَبَّصُوْاحَتّٰىيَاْتِيَاللّٰهُبِاَمْرِهٖوَاللّٰهُلَايَهْدِيالْقَوْمَالْفٰسِقِيْنَ »[ التوبۃ : ۲۴ ] “Say: If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, the wealth you have acquired, the commerce you fear may decline, and the dwellings you love are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His way, then wait until Allah brings about His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.” ➌ The definite article in { ذٰلِكَالْفَوْزُالْعَظِيْمُ:} over the predicate {’’ الْفَوْزُالْعَظِيْمُ ‘‘} creates the meaning of exclusivity, i.e., the great success is only this. This does not mean that there is any other minor success besides Paradise; rather, the word {’’ الْعَظِيْمُ ‘‘} is used only to express the greatness of this success. Otherwise, the only one who is truly successful is the one who is successful in the Hereafter; no one else is truly successful, as He said: «فَمَنْزُحْزِحَعَنِالنَّارِوَاُدْخِلَالْجَنَّةَفَقَدْفَازَوَمَاالْحَيٰوةُالدُّنْيَاۤاِلَّامَتَاعُالْغُرُوْرِ »[آل عمران : ۱۸۵ ] “So whoever is removed from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. And the life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion.”

2. 1. That is, after clarifying for mankind the paths of good and evil, virtue and vice, and disbelief and faith, Allah has given man the freedom of will and choice. According to this, some have chosen the path of disbelief and some have chosen the path of faith. He has not compelled anyone. If He had compelled, then no one would have been able to choose the path of disbelief.
