Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 2) ➊ { اِنْ يَّثْقَفُوْكُمْ يَكُوْنُوْا لَكُمْ اَعْدَآءً …:} In this, the reason for the last sentence of the previous verse has been stated, that is, whoever among you befriends the disbelievers and polytheists with the expectation that they will help him in difficult times or take care of his family, then he has strayed from the straight path and is walking on the wrong path. This is because there is so much hatred and enmity in the hearts of these disbelievers for you that they do not even like to see you alive; the only thing stopping them is that they do not have the power and you are not under their control. If at any time they gain power over you and you come under their control, they will be your enemies just as before, and they will stretch out their hands and tongues towards you with evil; they will leave no stone unturned in harming you physically and verbally, as He said: « كَيْفَ وَ اِنْ يَّظْهَرُوْا عَلَيْكُمْ لَا يَرْقُبُوْا فِيْكُمْ اِلًّا وَّ لَا ذِمَّةً » [ التوبۃ : ۸ ] “(How can there be any trust in the covenant of the polytheists) when, if they gain dominance over you, they will not consider any kinship or any covenant regarding you.”

{ وَدُّوْا لَوْ تَكْفُرُوْنَ: ’’ لَوْ ‘‘} is a masdariyyah particle: {’’أَيْ وَدُّوْا كُفْرَكُمْ‘‘} meaning their only desire will be that you become disbelievers; without this, they will never be pleased with you in any way. See also Surah Al-Baqarah (120, 109) and Surah An-Nisa (89).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

2. 1. That is, in their hearts there is such hatred and enmity against you, and you, on the other hand, are increasing bonds of love with them.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

2. If they gain dominance over you, they will become your enemies and will stretch out their hands and tongues against you with evil intent [6], and they wish that you would disbelieve.

[6] In this verse, it is stated that the assumption on the basis of which Sayyiduna Hatib ؓ did this act was also a vain and fruitless expectation. The hearts of these disbelievers harbor such intense malice and enmity towards you that they do not even like to see you alive. The only thing holding them back is their lack of power. And if ever they gain power over you, then they will do exactly what they have done before. There is only one way to save yourselves from their tyranny, and that is for you to become disbelievers again like them and join their ranks. Tell me, would you like that?
