Translation by Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan & Dr. Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali
And We bestowed upon him Ishâq (Isaac) and Ya‘qûb (Jacob), each of them We guided, and before him, We guided Nûh (Noah), and among his progeny Dâwûd (David), Sulaimân (Solomon), Ayyûb (Job), Yûsuf (Joseph), Mûsâ (Moses), and Hârûn (Aaron). Thus do We reward Al-Muhsinûn (the good-doers - see the footnote of V.9: 120).

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 84) ➊ {كُلًّاهَدَيْنَا:} means He set them upon the path of Ibrahim (عليه السلام) and granted them prophethood. See Surah Maryam (49).
➋ The pronoun in {وَمِنْذُرِّيَّتِهٖدَاوٗدَوَسُلَيْمٰنَ … : ’’ ذُرِّيَّتِهٖ ‘‘} may refer to Nuh عليه السلام as well, because among the mentioned prophets, Nuh عليه السلام is the closest. Imam Ibn Jarir رحمه الله has chosen this view. This pronoun can also refer back to Ibrahim عليه السلام, and in view of the context, this can be given preference. However, the mention of Lut عليه السلام among the prophets listed under this would present a problem, as he was not from the descendants of Ibrahim عليه السلام, but rather his nephew. Yet, it is possible that a nephew is also counted among the descendants, just as in Surah Al-Baqarah (133), Ismail عليه السلام is mentioned among the forefathers of Yaqub عليه السلام’s descendants. (Ibn Kathir)
➌ Counting Isa عليه السلام among the descendants of Nuh عليه السلام, or according to the other view, among the descendants of Ibrahim عليه السلام, is proof that the offspring of daughters are also counted among a person’s descendants, because Isa عليه السلام is related only through his mother, as he had no father. (Ibn Kathir)
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
84. 1. That is, in old age, when they had become hopeless of having children, as mentioned in Surah Hud, verses 72 and 73. Then, along with the son, the glad tidings of such a grandson were also given, who would be Yaqub (عليه السلام), which includes the meaning that after him, the lineage will continue. That is why it is derived from "عقب" (from behind).
84. 2. In "ذريته", some commentators have considered the pronoun to refer to Hazrat Nuh (عليه السلام) because he is closer, meaning that Dawud and Sulaiman (عليهما السلام) are from the descendants of Hazrat Nuh (عليه السلام). Others have considered it to refer to Hazrat Ibrahim (عليه السلام) because the entire discussion is about him. But in this case, the problem arises that then Lut (عليه السلام) should not have been mentioned in this list, because he is not from the descendants of Ibrahim (عليه السلام); he is the son of his brother Haran bin Azar, that is, the nephew of Ibrahim (عليه السلام), and Ibrahim (عليه السلام) is not the father but the uncle of Lut (عليه السلام). However, by way of predominance, he has also been counted among the descendants of Ibrahim (عليه السلام). Another example of this is in the Quran, where Hazrat Ismail (عليه السلام) has been counted among the ancestors of the children of Yaqub (عليه السلام), even though he was their uncle. See Surah Baqarah, verse 133.
