And turn not away those who invoke their Lord, morning and afternoon seeking His Face. You are accountable for them in nothing, and they are accountable for you in nothing, that you may turn them away, and thus become of the Zâlimûn (unjust).

(Ayah 52)➊ {وَلَاتَطْرُدِالَّذِيْنَيَدْعُوْنَ …:} Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we were six men sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The polytheists said, "Remove these people from your gathering, so that they do not become bold against us." Among those people were myself, Ibn Mas'ud, a man from Hudhail, and two others whose names I do not mention. Then, whatever Allah willed came into the heart of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and while he was still thinking, Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: «وَلَاتَطْرُدِالَّذِيْنَيَدْعُوْنَرَبَّهُمْبِالْغَدٰوةِوَالْعَشِيِّيُرِيْدُوْنَوَجْهَهٗ»[ مسلم، الفضائل، باب فی فضل سعد بن أبی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ : ۴۶؍۲۴۱۳ ] That is, even if the seekers of Allah are poor, their hospitality takes precedence. ➋ {مَاعَلَيْكَمِنْحِسَابِهِمْ … :} That is, neither is their account your responsibility, nor is your account their responsibility, so what is their fault that you distance them from yourself, as a result of which you would be counted among the wrongdoers.

52. 1. That is, these helpless and poor Muslims, who with great sincerity call upon their Lord day and night, meaning they worship Him, you (O Muhammad ﷺ) should not distance these poor ones from yourself in response to the polytheists’ taunt or demand that there is always a crowd of the poor and destitute around you—remove them so that we may also sit with you. Do not distance these poor ones from yourself, especially when you are not responsible for their sustenance, and if you do so, it would be an injustice, which does not befit you. The purpose is to teach the Ummah that to consider people without means as insignificant, or to avoid their company and not maintain attachment with them, is the act of the ignorant, not of the people of faith. The people of faith love the people of faith, even if they are poor and destitute.

And do not turn away those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His pleasure. [55] You are not accountable for them in anything, nor are they accountable for you in anything. If you turn them away, you would then be among the wrongdoers.
[55] The Demand of the Qurayshi Chiefs to Remove the Weak Companions from Their Presence:
Some of the respected leaders of Quraysh, among whom Aqra‘ and ‘Uyainah are especially mentioned, came to you and said: “We do wish to come to your gathering, but these lowly people are always sitting around you. Therefore, we feel hesitant. However, if you remove them from your gathering, we are ready to come to you.” Since you were very eager for these great Qurayshi men to embrace faith, you were pondering some way regarding this, when this verse was revealed, as is made clear by the following hadiths: Sayyiduna Sa‘d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: “We were six men sitting with you ﷺ. The polytheists said to you ﷺ, ‘Remove these people from your gathering so that they do not become bold against us.’” These six men were: myself, ‘Abdullah bin Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him), a man from Hudhayl, Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and two men whose names I do not mention. Whatever Allah willed came to the heart of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. While you ﷺ were pondering this matter, Allah Almighty revealed this verse. [مسلم۔ كتاب الفضائل۔ باب فى فضل سعد بن ابي وقاص] And according to the narration of Ibn Majah, these six men were: Sa‘d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), ‘Abdullah bin Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him), Suhayb al-Rumi (may Allah be pleased with him), ‘Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him), Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), and Bilal bin Rabah (may Allah be pleased with him, the Abyssinian). Aqra‘ and ‘Uyainah said to you ﷺ in private: “We feel embarrassed to sit with these slaves. Therefore, when we come to you, please have them removed.” Then this verse was revealed. In this verse, Allah Almighty has greatly praised the aforementioned Companions and has declared that you must never even think of removing them. It is extreme injustice to remove true believers out of the hope that others may come and sit, whose embracing of faith is not even certain.
