Verily, (many) Messengers were denied before you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), but with patience they bore the denial, and they were hurt; till Our Help reached them, and none can alter the Words (Decisions) of Allâh. Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 34) ➊ {وَ لَقَدْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلٌ … :} In this verse, the Prophet (peace be upon him) is comforted in another way: not only you, but many prophets and messengers before you were also denied, so you too should show patience and steadfastness just as they did.

{وَ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمٰتِ اللّٰهِ:} {’’ لِكَلِمٰتِ اللّٰهِ ‘‘} means that the promise Allah has made to help you, to make you prevail and to subdue the disbelievers, such as: «اِنَّا لَنَنْصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا فِي الْحَيٰوةِ الدُّنْيَا وَ يَوْمَ يَقُوْمُ الْاَشْهَادُ» [المؤمن : ۵۱ ] "Indeed, We will surely help Our messengers and those who believe in the life of this world and on the Day when the witnesses will stand." And He said: «كَتَبَ اللّٰهُ لَاَغْلِبَنَّ اَنَا وَ رُسُلِيْ» [ المجادلۃ : ۲۱ ] "Allah has decreed: 'Surely, I will prevail, I and My messengers.'" And He said: «هُوَ الَّذِيْۤ اَرْسَلَ رَسُوْلَهٗ بِالْهُدٰى وَ دِيْنِ الْحَقِّ لِيُظْهِرَهٗ عَلَى الدِّيْنِ كُلِّهٖ» [ الفتح : ۲۸ ] "He it is Who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, that He may make it prevail over all religions." So this promise will be fulfilled in every case, therefore you should be assured that no one can change Allah's words. Just as they demonstrated patience and steadfastness, you too should continue to present your message with patience and steadfastness, and do not let any anxiety find a way into yourself. Surely, you too will be helped and supported in the same way.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

34. 1. For the further reassurance of the Prophet ﷺ, it is being said that this is not the first incident where the disbelievers are denying Allah’s Messenger; rather, many messengers have passed before, who were also denied. So you too, following their example, should act with patience and perseverance, until Our help comes to you in the same way as We helped the previous messengers, and We do not go against Our promise. We have promised (اِنَّا لَنَنْصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَالَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا) 40:51 Surely We will help Our messengers and the believers (كَتَبَ اللّٰهُ لَاَغْلِبَنَّ اَنَا وَرُسُلِيْ) 58:21 Allah has decreed that I and My messengers will surely prevail and other such verses (as-Saffat).

34. 2. Rather, His promise will surely be fulfilled that you will remain dominant and victorious over the disbelievers. And so it happened.

34. 3. From which it is clear that although in the beginning their nations denied them, caused them harm, and made life difficult for them, but ultimately, with Allah’s help, success, triumph, and eternal salvation became their destiny.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

34. Messengers before you were also denied, but they patiently endured being rejected and persecuted until Our help reached them. And none can alter the words [38] of Allah. And surely, some of the news of the messengers has already come to you.

What are Allah’s Ways or Laws for Making the Truth Prevail?

By “words” here is meant those laws or established ways of Allah that come into play in the battle between truth and falsehood. What happens is that whenever a Prophet or Messenger begins his mission, people from all sides rise up in opposition to him. Then, among them, some people of sound nature and noble character believe in the Prophet and support him. Now, this group of believers and the Prophet himself become targets of the opponents’ oppression and violence, enduring hardships and remaining steadfast and patient. Gradually, their numbers continue to increase. Then comes a time when these oppressed people, despite being relatively weak, gird themselves to confront falsehood. This is the moment when Allah’s help comes to them—never before this. It is never Allah’s law to make the truth prevail over falsehood by creating miraculous circumstances on His own, without first testing the believers and making them pass through difficulties and trials. These are such laws that no one can change. As you have already learned from the stories of previous Messengers.
