Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 161) ➊ {قُلْ اِنَّنِيْ هَدٰىنِيْ رَبِّيْۤ اِلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيْمٍ …… :} In the entire surah, after proving monotheism with arguments and refuting the polytheists, in the end, the summary is presented in the form of a few facts. {’’ قِيَمًا ‘‘} This is a verbal noun in the meaning of {’’ قِيَامٌ ‘‘ }, which has been made an attribute of the religion for emphasis, just as {’’ زَيْدٌ عَدْلٌ ‘‘} is, meaning Zaid is very just, as if he is entirely justice, that is, this religion is extremely upright, strong, and straight.
{وَ مَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ:} In this, there is a refutation of the polytheists of Makkah and the Jews and Christians who were under the impression that they were following the religion of Abraham. Allah Almighty commanded the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to say to him that your claim is false, what comparison is there between you and him! You are polytheists and Abraham (peace be upon him) was free from polytheism and had turned towards one Allah. His religion was the true, straight, and extremely strong religion of Islam, which Allah Almighty chose for His sincere servants and whose guidance my Lord has granted me.

161. Say: My Lord has guided me to a straight path, an established religion, the way of Ibrahim [184], the upright, and he was not among the polytheists.

[184] Allah Almighty mentioned Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ because the Jews, Christians, and the polytheists of Makkah—all three groups—accepted him as their leader, and they also acknowledged that Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ worshipped only one Allah with complete sincerity. Even the polytheists of Makkah admitted that Ibrahim ؑ was not an idol-worshipper. Allah Almighty says that My straight path is this, and Sayyiduna Ibrahim ؑ was steadfast upon it. Therefore, do not invent separate beliefs and include them in this religion, and do not form separate sects in this way.
