Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 140){ قَدْ خَسِرَ الَّذِيْنَ قَتَلُوْۤا اَوْلَادَهُمْ:} It is stated that those who did these deeds suffered loss in this world and the Hereafter; in this world, due to their foolishness and ignorance, they were deprived of their children by killing them, and by declaring some things from their wealth as forbidden upon themselves, they put themselves into hardship and difficulty; and in the Hereafter, due to fabricating lies and slander against Allah Almighty, they will face the worst outcome.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

The exegesis of this verse has been done along with the previous verse.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

140. Those who, out of ignorance and foolishness, killed their children, and declared forbidden the sustenance Allah had provided them—falsely attributing it to Allah [149]—they have gone astray and will never find the right path.

[149] By reflecting on each clause of this self-made law of the polytheists, it becomes clear that:
(1) The caretakers of idols and shrines had taken all legislative powers into their own hands.
(2) They would make these innovations a part of the religion.
(3) And through tricks and excuses, they would extort wealth from people and usurp the rights of Allah Almighty.
(4) All powers to declare things lawful or unlawful were also in their hands.
(5) They themselves were guilty of killing children. In short, there was no form of polytheism left that they had not adopted. Allah Almighty, by mentioning their crimes, warns the Muslims that there is no possibility of such people, who are entangled in polytheism from head to toe, coming to the right path; or it means: can those ancestors and elders of theirs, who fabricated such lies against Allah, be considered rightly guided? They themselves went astray and led the coming generations onto the path of misguidance as well.
