Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 133) ➊ {وَرَبُّكَالْغَنِيُّ:} Here, due to {’’ الْغَنِيُّ ‘‘} being a definite predicate and {’’ الرَّحْمَةِ ‘‘} having "alif laam," it has been translated as "And your Lord alone is self-sufficient, full of perfect mercy." No one else is self-sufficient or full of perfect mercy except Him, meaning He has no need of the creation, yet, as a favor, He is full of perfect mercy. This also means that the blessings mentioned earlier, such as sending messengers, etc., are purely out of mercy, not for any benefit to Himself.
➋ { ذُوالرَّحْمَةِ:} The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has one hundred mercies. He has sent down one mercy among the jinn, humans, animals, and insects; it is because of this one mercy that they show kindness and mercy to one another, and because of this one mercy, even wild animals love their young. Allah has kept ninety-nine mercies with Himself, which He will bestow upon His servants on the Day of Resurrection." [ مسلم، التوبۃ، باب فی سعۃ رحمۃ اﷲ تعالٰی …… : 2752/19 ]
➌ { اِنْيَّشَاْيُذْهِبْكُمْ …… :} That is, just as He made you successors of previous people, in the same way, He can destroy you and make others your successors, or it means that His power is not limited to creating only jinn and humans, but He can also create a third kind of creation in their place. (Razi) See Surah An-Nisa (133), Surah Ibrahim (20, 19), and Surah Fatir (15 to 17).
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
133. 1 He is the Self-Sufficient, Independent of His creations. He is not in need of them, nor does He require their worship; their faith does not benefit Him, nor does their disbelief harm Him. But along with this attribute of self-sufficiency, He is also Merciful to His creation. His independence does not prevent Him from showing mercy to His creation.
133. 2 This is an expression of His immense strength and unlimited power. Just as He wiped out many previous nations as if they never existed and raised up new nations in their place, He is still capable of destroying you whenever He wills and replacing you with a people unlike you. For further details, see Surah Nisa 133, Surah Ibrahim 20, Surah Fatir 15, 17, Surah Muhammad 38.
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
133. And your Lord is Self-Sufficient and Merciful [140]. If He wills, He can remove you and replace you with others, just as He produced you from the descendants of other people.
[140] It is Allah’s Mercy Upon You That He is Taking Service of the Religion From You:
That is, Allah has no need that arises because of you, nor is any benefit of His dependent on you, such that your disobedience would harm Him or your obedience would benefit Him in any way. Rather, it is His utmost mercy and kindness that He has shown you the path of guidance, by acting upon which you can both save yourselves from punishment and attain high ranks. The second meaning of His being Merciful is that He does not immediately punish you for your sins and continues to forgive your faults. Otherwise, if He were strict, your crimes are so many that He would have removed you from this world and replaced you with other people, just as He brought you after previous nations. And this is not at all difficult for Him. Therefore, your well-being lies only in obeying Him.
