And when there comes to them a sign (from Allâh) they say: "We shall not believe until we receive the like of that which the Messengers of Allâh had received." Allâh knows best with whom to place His Message. Humiliation and disgrace from Allâh and a severe torment will overtake the criminals (polytheists, sinners) for that which they used to plot.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 124) ➊ {وَ اِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ اٰيَةٌ …… :} That is, the state of the deception and trickery of these disbelievers is such that whenever any miracle appears before them as proof of the truthfulness of the Prophet (peace be upon him), they say that until we ourselves are appointed to this position and we receive this miracle, we cannot believe.

{ اَللّٰهُ اَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَالَتَهٗ:} That is, prophethood and messengership are purely bestowed gifts; Allah Almighty entrusts the responsibility of prophethood to whomever He wills, and He knows best to whom this blessing should be granted—whether to an orphan of Makkah or to an arrogant chief of Makkah or Ta’if. See Surah Az-Zukhruf (31, 32).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

124. 1 That is, angels should also bring revelation to them, and the crown of prophethood and messengership should also be placed upon their heads.

124. 2 That is, deciding whom to make a prophet? This is the work of Allah alone, because He alone knows the wisdom and expediency of every matter, and He alone knows who is worthy of this position—whether it be a chief and leader of Makkah, or the precious orphan of Abdullah and Hazrat Amina.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

124. And when a sign comes to them, they say, “We will never believe until we are given the like of what was given to Allah’s messengers.” Allah knows best where to place His message. Soon, the criminals will be overtaken by humiliation before Allah and a severe punishment for their plotting.

Messengership is a Gifted Attribute and the Disbelievers’ Demand for Messengership:

For example, when they witnessed the miracle of the splitting of the moon, they said that it was clear magic. This is evidence of their stubbornness, and now they say that an angel should be sent down to them as to the messengers, and that the book, wisdom, and prophethood given to the messengers should also be given to them. They claim that unless these things are made available to them, they cannot believe. However, not every human being is capable of bearing the burden of revelation. Allah instills this capacity in the hearts of the prophets from birth, and this attribute is a matter of Allah’s religion and grace. It cannot be attained through effort, toil, or spiritual exercises. Allah alone knows who among mankind is capable of bearing the burden of prophethood. What these people are doing is out of arrogance and rebellion, and the thorns they are spreading in the path of truth through their deceit and trickery will result in them facing the punishment of humiliation and disgrace in this world as well as in the Hereafter.
