Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 116) {وَاِنْتُطِعْاَكْثَرَمَنْفِيالْاَرْضِ ……: } In this noble verse, Allah Almighty has warned His Prophet that majority should not be considered as proof of truth in your view, and you should not follow the people of the earth merely on the basis of their numbers, otherwise you will deviate from the path of truth. These disbelievers, who are in large numbers, are under the false impression that their forefathers were upon the truth, so they imitate them. They have no other proof except that the majority of people are upon the same religion as theirs. These people make conjectural statements about Allah Almighty; sometimes they say someone is Allah’s son, sometimes they make idols their intercessors with Allah, and sometimes they declare animals slaughtered in the name of the dead and other than Allah as lawful. From this verse, the reality of the present-day democracy also becomes clear, in which only the majority is considered decisive. Regarding the majority, Allah Almighty has mentioned in addition to this verse that they are not upon the truth: «وَمَاۤاَكْثَرُالنَّاسِوَلَوْحَرَصْتَبِمُؤْمِنِيْنَ »[یوسف : ۱۰۳ ] “And most people, even if you strive [for it], are not believers.” And He said: «وَلٰكِنَّاَكْثَرَهُمْلَايَعْلَمُوْنَ »[ یونس : ۵۵ ] “But most of them do not know.” And He said: «وَقَلِيْلٌمِّنْعِبَادِيَالشَّكُوْرُ »[سبا : ۱۳ ] “And very few of My servants are truly grateful.” And He said: «اِلَّاالَّذِيْنَاٰمَنُوْاوَعَمِلُواالصّٰلِحٰتِوَقَلِيْلٌمَّاهُمْ»[ ص : ۲۴ ] “Except those who believe and do righteous deeds, and they are very few.” Now, on one side is Allah’s command, for which there can be no firmer proof, and on the other side is the majority, whose foundation is merely their conjecture and guesswork, and on the basis of this guesswork, they have declared countless forbidden things, such as shirk, usury, adultery, the act of the people of Lot, etc., as lawful, and have declared countless lawful things as forbidden. So tell me, on which side will the truth be? Therefore, in this verse, obedience to the majority of the people of the earth has been forbidden in opposition to Allah’s command.
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
116. 1. This reality stated by the Quran can also be observed as a fact in every era. In another place, Allah Almighty said (Surah Yusuf, 13): "Most people, even though you desire it, will not be believers." From this, it is understood that those who walk on the path of truth and honesty are always few. This also proves that the criterion of truth and falsehood is arguments and evidence, not the majority or minority of people. That is, it is not the case that whatever the majority has adopted is the truth and those in the minority are upon falsehood. Rather, according to the aforementioned Quranic reality, it is more likely that the people of truth are in the minority in terms of numbers and the people of falsehood are in the majority. This is also supported by the hadith in which the Prophet ﷺ said that my Ummah will be divided into 73 sects, of which only one sect will be destined for Paradise, and all the rest will be in Hell. And the sign of this group destined for Paradise, the Prophet ﷺ stated, is that it will be 'mā ana 'alayhi wa aṣḥābī,' that is, "those who follow my way and the way of my companions."
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
116. (O Muhammad ﷺ!) If you obey most of those on earth, they will lead you away from the path of Allah [121]. They follow nothing but conjecture, and they do nothing but guess.
[121] The Religion of the Majority is Mere Imitation and Conjecture:
Both history and observation bear witness to the fact that, in any society, people of intellect, intelligence, and principles are few. The majority of society consists of ignorant masses. The Quran, at numerous places, has described such a majority as ignorant, defiantly disobedient, unjust, and polytheist. These people have no principles of their own. They neither possess knowledge of anything nor do they strive to acquire it. Other than their food and drink, they care for nothing, nor do they bother to think about anything else. Their way of living is such that they simply follow the direction in which the majority is heading. They neither wish to investigate anything nor are they able to do so; their beliefs and actions are all based on conjecture and assumption. Furthermore, since the opinions of the majority are also diverse and keep changing, following the majority always leads to misguidance. That is why you and the Muslims have been forbidden from following what they say. In contrast, the path of Allah’s guidance is only one, has always been one, and will always remain one. From our master Adam ؑ to the Last Prophet ﷺ, all the prophets have been instructed to follow this very path. Therefore, the seeker of truth should never look at which path the majority of the people of the world are following, but should, with full steadfastness, walk the path shown by Allah, no matter how few are those who walk upon it. From this very verse, the current Western democratic system is also declared invalid, in which the opinion of the majority is considered the standard of truth, and everyone’s opinion is given equal status. In this system, the opinion of a scholar and an ignorant person is given the same rank, and both these things are in clear contradiction to the explicit verses of the Quran.
