On the Day when Allâh will resurrect them all together (for their account); then they will swear to Him as they swear to you (O Muslims). And they think that they have something (to stand upon). Verily, they are liars!
يَوْمَ yawma (On the) Day
يَبْعَثُهُمُ yabʿathuhumu Allah will raise them
ٱللَّهُ l-lahu Allah will raise them
جَمِيعًۭا jamīʿan all

أَنَّهُمْ annahum that they
عَلَىٰ ʿalā (are) on
شَىْءٍ ۚ shayin something
أَلَآ alā No doubt
إِنَّهُمْ innahum Indeed, they
هُمُ humu [they]
ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ l-kādhibūna (are) the liars

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 18) {يَوْمَ يَبْعَثُهُمُ اللّٰهُ جَمِيْعًا فَيَحْلِفُوْنَ لَهٗ … :} That is, the habit of the hypocrites to lie and swear false oaths is so deeply ingrained that it will not leave them even after death and resurrection, and they will swear false oaths before Allah Almighty just as they used to do before the Muslims in the world, and they will think that in the form of an oath, they have some kind of basis upon which they stand. It is said, listen! They are the real and complete liars, for they do not refrain from lying even before the Knower of the unseen. See Surah Al-An'am (22 to 24).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

18. 1. That is, the extent of their wretchedness and hardness of heart is such that even on the Day of Resurrection, where nothing will remain hidden, they will dare to brazenly swear false oaths before Allah.

18. 2. That is, just as in the world they would temporarily gain some benefits by swearing false oaths, there too they will think that these false oaths will be beneficial for them.

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

18. On the Day when Allah will raise them all together, they will swear to Him as they swear to you, thinking that it will benefit them. Beware! They are truly the liars.

The Firm Habit of the Hypocrites to Swear Oaths:

The habit of swearing oaths is only found in a person who constantly lies and has lost the trust of people. A truthful and upright person never needs to swear an oath; people trust his word as it is. The state of these hypocrites and their habit of swearing oaths has become so ingrained that even after death, when presented before Allah, they will begin to swear oaths, not even considering that when the Muslims themselves did not trust their oaths, how would Allah trust them, Who knows the secrets of hearts.
