Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 89,88) The tanween on {فَاَمَّاۤاِنْكَانَمِنَالْمُقَرَّبِيْنَ …:’’ فَرَوْحٌ ‘‘} and {’’ رَيْحَانٌ ‘‘} is for veneration. The meaning of {’’ رَوْحٌ ‘‘} is comfort, happiness, and mercy, and {’’ رَيْحَانٌ ‘‘} refers to every fragrant plant and flower. One meaning of {’’ رَيْحَانٌ ‘‘} is also sustenance. At the end of the surah, the state of all three groups at the time of death is described. The purpose is encouragement and warning, that is, if the dying person is among the Muqarrabeen, then at the time of death there is great comfort, happiness, and Allah’s mercy for it, fragrant flowers, and a Paradise filled with blessings. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [ اَلْمَيِّتُتَحْضُرُهُالْمَلاَئِكَةُفَإِذَاكَانَالرَّجُلُصَالِحًاقَالُوااخْرُجِيْأَيَّتُهَاالنَّفْسُالطَّيِّبَةُ ! كَانَتْفِيالْجَسَدِالطَّيِّبِ،اخْرُجِيْحَمِيْدَةًوَأَبْشِرِيْبِرَوْحٍوَرَيْحَانٍوَرَبٍّغَيْرِغَضْبَانَفَلاَيَزَالُيُقَالُلَهَاذٰلِكَحَتّٰیتَخْرُجَثُمَّيُعْرَجُبِهَاإِلَیالسَّمَاءِفَيُفْتَحُلَهَافَيُقَالُمَنْهٰذَا ؟ فَيَقُوْلُوْنَفُلاَنٌ،فَيُقَالُمَرْحَبًابِالنَّفْسِالطَّيِّبَةِكَانَتْفِيالْجَسَدِالطَّيِّبِادْخُلِيْحَمِيْدَةً،وَأَبْشِرِيْبِرَوْحٍوَرَيْحَانٍوَرَبٍّغَيْرِغَضْبَانَ،فَلاَيَزَالُيُقَالُلَهَاذٰلِكَحَتّٰیيُنْتَهٰیبِهَاإِلَیالسَّمَاءِالَّتِيْفِيْهَااللّٰهُعَزَّوَجَلَّ ][ابن ماجہ، الزھد، باب ذکر الموت والاستعداد لہ: ۴۲۶۲، وقال الألباني صحیح ] “When the angels come to the dying person, if the man is righteous, they say: ‘Come out, O pure soul that was in a pure body! Come out, you are praiseworthy, and rejoice in the glad tidings of great comfort, fragrant flowers, and a Lord who is not angry.’ They keep saying this to it until it comes out. Then it is taken up towards the sky, and a door is opened for it, and it is said: ‘Who is this?’ They say: ‘So-and-so.’ Then it is said: ‘Welcome, O pure soul that was in a pure body, enter, you are praiseworthy, and rejoice in the glad tidings of great comfort, fragrant flowers, and a Lord who is not angry.’ Then they keep saying these words to it until it is brought to the heaven in which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is.”
