(Ayah 65 to 67) ➊ {لَوْنَشَآءُلَجَعَلْنٰهُحُطَامًا … : ’’ حُطَامًا ‘‘ ’’حَطَمَيَحْطِمُحَطْمًا‘‘} (ض) is derived from (to break), meaning {’’مَحْطُوْمٌ‘‘}, just as {’’فُتَاتًا‘‘ ’’فَتٌّ‘‘} is derived from and {’’جُذَاذًا‘‘ ’’جَذٌّ‘‘} is derived from. All mean "shattered into pieces." {’’ فَظَلْتُمْ ‘‘} is originally from the form {’’سَمِعَ‘‘} from {’’فَظَلِلْتُمْ‘‘}, the first "lam" has been omitted for lightness. (See Ta-Ha: 97) {’’ تَفَكَّهُوْنَ ‘‘} is originally {’’ تَتَفَكَّهُوْنَ‘‘}, one "ta" has been omitted for lightness. The original meaning of {’’تَفَكُّهٌ ‘‘} is "to move from one fruit to another," then it began to be used for moving from one thing to another. Here, after the crop is ruined, making various statements is meant. {’’ مُغْرَمُوْنَ ‘‘} means fine, penalty, and is the plural of the passive participle from the form "if‘al," meaning those upon whom a penalty is imposed.
➋ Mufassir Kilani writes: "There are several ways in which a crop can be shattered or broken into pieces, for example, if Allah creates salinity in the land where the seed was sown, the crop grows weak and yellow and does not bear fruit properly, or after the crop grows, it is attacked by pests, or due to some earthly or heavenly calamity, such as frost or heavy rain, the growth of the crop stops and the flourishing fields turn yellow—does any of you have the power to save the crop from these disasters? And if you yourself are born by Allah’s mercy and you get food only by Allah’s mercy, then what is the meaning of your arrogance and defiance before Him? In such a situation, you keep making various statements that our seed was wasted, we incurred expenses, our labor was lost, and now we have nothing to eat in the future, we are ruined. Yet, even then, you do not attain the sense to turn to Allah and consider it a warning from Him." (Tayseer al-Qur’an)

65. If We willed, We could turn it into chaff, then you would keep talking [31] about it.
[31] Possible Calamities for the Seed:
There are several forms of this as well. For example, the land in which the seed was sown—if Allah causes salinity to develop in it, and the crop that grows is weak and yellow, and does not bear fruit properly, or after the crop has grown, it is attacked by pests, or due to some terrestrial or celestial calamity, such as frost, heavy rain, etc., the growth of the crop is halted and the flourishing fields turn yellow. So, does any one of you have the power to save the crop from these disasters? And if you yourselves have come into existence only by Allah’s mercy, and it is only by Allah’s mercy that you receive food to eat, then what is the meaning of your arrogance and defiance before Him? In such a situation, you are left only making complaints that our seed was wasted, our labor was wasted, and now we have nothing left to eat in the future, so we are ruined. Yet, even then, you do not attain the sense to turn to Allah and consider this a warning from Allah.
