فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَٰتٌ حِسَانٌ ﴿70﴾

Therein (Gardens) will be Khairâtun-Hisân [fair (wives) good and beautiful];

(Ayah 70) ➊ {فِيْهِنَّ خَيْرٰتٌ حِسَانٌ: ’’ خَيْرٰتٌ ‘‘ ’’خَيْرَةٌ‘‘} is the plural of {’’خَيِّرَةٌ‘‘}, which originally has a shaddah on the "yaa." Its masculine is {’’خَيِّرٌ‘‘} (on the pattern of { فَيْعِلٌ}), in which the "yaa" has been omitted for lightness, just as {’’هَيِّنٌ، لَيِّنٌ ‘‘} and {’’مَيِّتٌ‘‘} are changed to {’’هَيْنٌ، لَيْنٌ‘‘} and {’’مَيْتٌ‘‘}. This is not the comparative {’’خَيْرٌ‘‘} which comes in contrast to {’’شَرٌّ‘‘}, because its origin is {’’ أَخْيَرُ ‘‘} is ({ أَفْعَلُ}). {’’ حِسَانٌ ‘‘ ’’حَسْنَاءُ ‘‘} is the plural of {’’ خَيْرٰتٌ ‘‘}, meaning righteous, that is, women of good character and {’’ حِسَانٌ ‘‘} beautiful women.

➋ Here it is necessary to keep in mind that it is not said here that «فِيْهِمَا خَيْرَاتٌ حِسَانٌ» (in these two gardens there are women of good character and beauty), but rather it is said: « فِيْهِنَّ خَيْرٰتٌ حِسَانٌ », meaning in all those gardens that have been mentioned, there are women of good character and beauty. This shows that the qualities mentioned here are common to the women given in all four gardens, to both the "foremost" and the "companions of the right."

70. In both of them will be women of good character [43] and beautiful.

[43] These will be women of Paradise who are different from the wives of the people of Paradise in the world, that is, the houris of Paradise, who are of extremely pure character and very beautiful, as will be mentioned in the next verse.
