مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ ﴿8﴾
Hastening towards the caller. The disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day."
مُّهْطِعِينَ muh'ṭiʿīna Racing ahead
إِلَى ilā towards
ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ l-dāʿi the caller
يَقُولُ yaqūlu Will say
ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ l-kāfirūna the disbelievers
هَـٰذَا hādhā This
يَوْمٌ yawmun (is) a Day
عَسِرٌۭ ʿasirun difficult

(Ayah 8) ➊ {مُهْطِعِيْنَ اِلَى الدَّاعِ …: ’’أَهْطَعَ يُهْطِعُ‘‘} (Form IV verb) To stare fixedly at something or to run swiftly with one's neck raised. (See Ibrahim: 43) It is an adjective derived from {’’ عَسِرٌ ‘‘ ’’عُسْرٌ‘‘}, very difficult.
➋ The exegete Ibn Ashur said: From {’’ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ‘‘} to {’’ يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ ‘‘}, the terror of that day is manifested in seven ways: (1) {’’ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ ‘‘} The call of Israfil (peace be upon him) itself is so terrifying that it cannot be described. (2) In {’’ اِلٰى شَيْءٍ ‘‘}, the grandeur and ambiguity created by the indefinite tanween on {’’ شَيْءٍ ‘‘} add to this terror. (3) {’’ نُكُرٍ ‘‘} (4) {’’ خُشَّعًا اَبْصَارُهُمْ ‘‘} (5) The comparison with {’’ جَرَادٌ مُّنْتَشِرٌ ‘‘}. (6) {’’ مُهْطِعِيْنَ اِلَى الدَّاعِ ‘‘} (7) And their saying {’’ هٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ ‘‘} "that this is a very difficult day."

8. They will be rushing towards the caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult [9] day."
