So (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) withdraw from them. The Day that the caller will call (them) to a terrible thing.

(Ayah 6) ➊ { فَتَوَلَّعَنْهُمْ:} That is, when warning or frightening these people brings no benefit at all, then you too turn away from them and leave them to their own state. Your responsibility was to convey, and you have conveyed it. ➋ {يَوْمَيَدْعُالدَّاعِاِلٰىشَيْءٍنُّكُرٍ: ’’ يَوْمَ ‘‘} is in the accusative due to the omission of the preposition, meaning before it is the preposition {’’إِلٰي‘‘} which has been omitted, making it accusative. (Baghawi) Alusi said: {’’ هٰذَاقَوْلُالْحَسَنِ ‘‘} that this is the statement of Hasan, meaning {’’ فَتَوَلَّعَنْهُمْإِلٰیيَوْمٍيَدْعُالدَّاعِفِيْهِإِلٰیشَيْءٍنُّكُرٍ ‘‘} "So turn away from them until the Day when the caller will call to a terrible thing." Or {’’ يَوْمَ ‘‘} is accusative due to an omitted verb with {’’اُنْظُرْ‘‘}, meaning "Turn away from them and wait for the Day when..." The caller refers to Israfil (peace be upon him), whose blowing will cause all people to rise from their graves. {’’ يَدْعُ ‘‘} is originally {’’يَدْعُوْ‘‘}, and since the waw is not pronounced here, it is not written in the Uthmani Mushaf. {’’ الدَّاعِ ‘‘} is originally {’’الدَّاعِيُ‘‘}, the "ya" is omitted for lightness, and {’’ شَيْءٍنُّكُرٍ ‘‘} refers to reckoning, {’’ نُكُرٍ ‘‘} meaning {’’ مُنْكِرٌ ‘‘}, something unpleasant, strange, a unique thing that has never been seen before.

6. So do not pay attention to them [6]. The Day when the caller will call towards something dreadful [7].
[6] That is, leave them to their own state and do not waste your time in the hope of guiding such stubborn people. These people will not believe until they see the punishment. [7] One meaning of "nukr" is "disagreeable," which has been adopted in the translation, and its other meaning is "unknown" or "strange thing," that is, when they are called for reckoning, this matter will be completely novel for them, something they had never imagined—that they would be resurrected in this way and presented for accountability.
