And they indeed sought to shame his guest (by asking to commit sodomy with them). So We blinded their eyes, (saying) "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings."

(Ayah 37) {وَلَقَدْرَاوَدُوْهُعَنْضَيْفِهٖ …: ’’ رَاوَدُوْهُ ‘‘} is from the form of باب مفاعلہ. {’’مُرَاوَدَةٌ‘‘} means to repeatedly demand with gentleness and softness, to entice, to seduce, to persuade someone to do wrong through deception. Here, باب مفاعلہ is not for participation but for emphasis. By {’’ ضَيْفِهٖ ‘‘} is meant the angels who came as guests in the form of handsome boys. When the people learned of their arrival, they demanded from Lut (peace be upon him) to hand them over. The word {’’ رَاوَدُوْهُ ‘‘} indicates that they tried every method of deception, trickery, seduction, persuasion, coercion, and bullying on Lut (peace be upon him) so that somehow he would be deceived and hand them over. When those who came for this purpose exceeded all limits and began to enter the house by force to seize the boys, and Lut (peace be upon him) became extremely distressed, the angels informed him that they were sent by his Lord, and that these people would never be able to reach him in any way. (See Hud: 81, 80) At that time, Allah Almighty wiped out their eyes, made them blind, so that before the great punishment comes, they may taste this punishment and His warning.

37. 1. Either they deceived or demanded from Lot (AS) his guests. The meaning is that when the people of Lot (AS) found out that a few handsome young men had come to Lot (AS) (who were actually angels and had come to inflict punishment upon them), they demanded from Prophet Lot (AS) that he hand over these guests to them so that they could satisfy their corrupted desires with them. (2) It is said that these angels were Jibril, Mikail, and Israfil (peace be upon them). When they insisted even more to take the angels (guests) with the intention of committing immorality, Jibril (AS) struck them with a part of his wing, due to which their eyeballs came out, and some say only their eyesight was taken away. In any case, before the general punishment, this special punishment befell those who had come to Prophet Lot (AS) with evil intentions. And being deprived of their eyes or sight, they returned home. And in the morning, they were destroyed in that general punishment which came upon the entire nation. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

37. And they even demanded his guests from him, so We blinded their eyes [27] (and said), "Now taste My punishment and My warning."
[27] The Nature of the Punishment:
To inflict punishment upon them, three angels came in the form of extremely handsome, beardless young boys. Upon seeing them, Sayyiduna Lut ؑ became very distressed and worried about how he could protect the honor of his guests from this wicked people. Meanwhile, his wife informed the local ruffians that some very attractive guests had arrived at their house. Those people immediately forced their way into his home. Sayyiduna Lut ؑ pleaded earnestly with those wretches to abandon their evil intentions so that he would not be disgraced before his guests. When the angels saw this situation, they took Sayyiduna Lut ؑ aside and informed him of the reality: that he need not fear or plead, for they were not humans but angels sent to bring punishment upon this people. Then, when those miscreants advanced towards the boys to fulfill their lustful desires, one of the angels passed his hand over their eyes, causing them to lose their sight. They began to scream and ran back, and due to their blindness, as they tried to reach the door, they fell over one another. This was the first and lighter punishment upon them.
