Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 5) {وَالسَّقْفِالْمَرْفُوْعِ:} By this is meant the sky, which is like a roof for the earth, as He said: « وَجَعَلْنَاالسَّمَآءَسَقْفًامَّحْفُوْظًاوَّهُمْعَنْاٰيٰتِهَامُعْرِضُوْنَ »[ الأنبیاء : ۳۲ ] “And We made the sky a protected roof, but they turn away from its signs.” Which Allah, the Exalted, has held at such a height without any pillars, merely by His command, as He said: « اَللّٰهُالَّذِيْرَفَعَالسَّمٰوٰتِبِغَيْرِعَمَدٍتَرَوْنَهَا »[ الرعد : ۲ ] “Allah is the One who raised the heavens without pillars that you see.” And He said: « وَيُمْسِكُالسَّمَآءَاَنْتَقَعَعَلَىالْاَرْضِاِلَّابِاِذْنِهٖ»[ الحج : ۶۵] “And He holds the sky so that it does not fall upon the earth except by His permission.” Then He adorned this lofty roof with the sun, moon, and stars, as He said: «وَلَقَدْزَيَّنَّاالسَّمَآءَالدُّنْيَابِمَصَابِيْحَ »[ الملک : ۵ ] “And indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps.” Allah, the Exalted, has mentioned the creation of the sky at several places as evidence for the resurrection of mankind, as He said: «ءَاَنْتُمْاَشَدُّخَلْقًااَمِالسَّمَآءُبَنٰىهَا (27) رَفَعَسَمْكَهَافَسَوّٰىهَا (28) وَاَغْطَشَلَيْلَهَاوَاَخْرَجَضُحٰىهَا »[ النازعات : ۲۷ تا ۲۹ ] “Are you more difficult to create or the sky? He constructed it. He raised its roof and proportioned it. And He darkened its night and brought forth its daylight.”

5. 1. By this is meant the sky, which is like a roof for the earth. The Quran has called it a 'protected roof' at another place; some have taken this to mean the Throne, which is the roof for all creation. (وَجَعَلْنَاالسَّمَاۗءَسَقْفًامَّحْفُوْظًا) 21. Al-Anbiya:32). Some have taken this to mean the Throne, which is the roof for all creation.
