Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 38) {اَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَّسْتَمِعُوْنَ فِيْهِ … :} Or do they have a ladder by which they climb up and eavesdrop on the higher realm, and from there they have heard that what they are saying is the truth, and they have also heard that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is not Allah’s Messenger and that He has not sent him, rather he himself has composed the Qur’an and attributed it to Allah. If anyone claims this, then he should present a clear proof, from which it can be known that he really went up to the sky and actually heard the words of Allah and the angels there. See Surah Al-Ahqaf (4) and Surah Fatir (40). The summary of this verse is that the disbelievers do not even have any transmitted evidence for not believing in the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

38. 1. That is, do they claim that by means of a ladder, they too, like Muhammad ﷺ, have gone up to the heavens and listened to the conversations of the angels or what is revealed to them?

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

38. Or do they have a ladder by which they can listen in (to the higher realm)? Then let any of them who listens bring a clear proof [32].

[32] That is, have they heard something from the higher realm that the Prophet who was born in Makkah was not sent by Us? That he himself has composed some speech and told people that this speech is revealed to him from Allah? If there is such a thing, then let them present its proof. Then, when they have no evidence to refute the Prophethood, how can they deny it with such stubbornness and severity?
