Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 46) {وَقَوْمَنُوْحٍمِّنْقَبْلُ … :} Razi has mentioned a point here that in the mention of these five nations, there is an indication that Allah Almighty punished them with the very things that were the cause of their existence and survival. Those four things are: earth, water, air, and fire. The people of Lot were destroyed with stones of baked clay, Pharaoh and the people of Noah with water, ‘Ad with air, and Thamud were destroyed and ruined with fire.

46. 1. The people of Nuh, ‘Ad, Fir‘awn, and Thamud, etc. have passed away long ago; they too chose the path of rebellion against Allah instead of obedience to Him. Eventually, they were drowned in the flood.

46. And before them, We destroyed the people of Noah—indeed, they were a rebellious [40] people.
[40] Mention of the People of Nuh:
The mention of Sayyiduna Nuh (Noah) ؑ and his people has been presented very briefly in just one verse. In this, both the crime of that people and their punishment have been mentioned. In the previous verses, some historical evidences have been presented to prove that the law of retribution for actions is ongoing and effective in this universe.
Lesson from the Similar Crimes and Outcomes of All Nations:
Whichever nation disobeyed the command of Allah Almighty and showed arrogance, its outcome was the same: it was destroyed and ruined. And this punishment was merely in the nature of an order for their arrest so that they could not commit further crimes and other people could be saved from their oppression. As for the real punishment for their crimes, it will be given on the Day of Resurrection after the trial, testimonies, and proof of the crime. And these historical events, their causes, and their outcomes are all being recounted to the disbelievers so that they may themselves understand that if they too do not desist from opposing the truth, their outcome could be the same.
