Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 31) ➊ { قَالَفَمَاخَطْبُكُمْاَيُّهَاالْمُرْسَلُوْنَ:} When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) became frightened because the guests did not eat the food and he clearly expressed it: « اِنَّامِنْكُمْوَجِلُوْنَ»[ الحجر : ۵۲ ] “We are indeed afraid of you.” Because he realized that they were angels, and he also knew that the coming of angels in this manner is not an ordinary matter, as He said: « مَانُنَزِّلُالْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةَاِلَّابِالْحَقِّوَمَاكَانُوْۤااِذًامُّنْظَرِيْنَ»[ الحجر : ۸ ] “We do not send down the angels except with truth (punishment), and then they are not given respite.” Therefore, he became extremely afraid, so to remove his fear, the angels said two things to him. First: « لَاتَخَفْاِنَّاۤاُرْسِلْنَاۤاِلٰىقَوْمِلُوْطٍ»[ ہود : ۷۰ ] “Do not be afraid, for we have been sent to the people of Lut.” That is, you do not need to fear, our destination is elsewhere. The second thing they said was that we have come to give you glad tidings of a son and grandson, Ishaq and Yaqub. (See Hud: 71) When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was reassured, he asked, “So, O sent angels! What is your matter (with the people of Lut), and what do you intend to do regarding them?” Note! The word {’’خَطْبٌ‘‘} is generally used only for some important or severe matter. ➋ This entire incident proves that the Prophets (peace be upon them) are not ‘Alim al-Ghayb’ (knowers of the unseen). For details, see the commentary of Surah Al-Hijr (62).
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan — Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf
Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
31. 1. That is, besides this glad tidings, what other task and purpose do you have for which you have been sent?
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran — Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani
Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. Abraham asked them, "O messengers! What is your mission [25]?"
[25] The Literal Meaning of ﴿خَطْب﴾:
﴿خَطْب﴾ means state, matter, or purpose, whether small or large, and this word is generally used for an undesirable matter. That is, when Sayyiduna Ibrahimؑ realized that these were angels, and angels only come in human form under extraordinary circumstances. The good news of a son had removed his own fear, but the real matter of astonishment still remained. Therefore, he asked the angels what mission they had come for and what was their purpose.
