لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ ﴿22﴾
(It will be said to the sinners): "Indeed you were heedless of this. Now We have removed from you your covering, and sharp is your sight this Day!"
لَّقَدْ laqad Certainly

(Ayah 22) ➊ In {لَقَدْ كُنْتَ فِيْ غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هٰذَا: ’’ غَفْلَةٍ ‘‘}, the tanween is for magnification, therefore it has been translated as "great heedlessness." Here, these words are omitted: "It will be said to every disbeliever and polytheist that..." This verse is also evidence that {’’ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ‘‘} refers to the disbelievers, because they alone are heedless of the Hereafter, while the believers have certainty in the Hereafter and remain concerned about it. This statement will be said to the disbelievers as sarcasm to humiliate them.
{ فَكَشَفْنَا عَنْكَ غِطَآءَكَ … :} means the veil of heedlessness that was over your eyes, due to which you used to deny the Hereafter, that veil We have now removed, so your sight has become sharp and you can see with your own eyes all those realities which you used to deny.

22. Indeed, you were heedless of this, so We have removed your covering from you, and your sight today is sharp.

[26] That is, you remained intoxicated and absorbed in the allurements of the world. When the Day of Reckoning was mentioned before you, you would immediately deny it, and far from reflecting on it, you would not even tolerate hearing such a thing. Today, We have removed the veils of the unseen from before your eyes, and today you are seeing all those things clearly from which you deliberately remained heedless.
