Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 92) ➊ {وَ اَطِيْعُوا اللّٰهَ وَ اَطِيْعُوا الرَّسُوْلَ:} That is, refraining from gambling and alcohol is obedience to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him). Therefore, beware of opposing Allah and His Messenger. (Razi, Qurtubi) Remember that obedience to Allah and His Messenger means following the Qur’an and Sunnah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: [ أَلاَ اِنِّيْ أُوْتِيْتُ الْكِتَابَ وَ مِثْلَهُ مَعَهُ ] “I have been given the Book, that is, the Qur’an, and something like it along with it (Hadith).” [أبو داوٗد، السنۃ، باب فی لزوم السنۃ:۴۶۰۴ وصححہ الألبانی ]
{فَاِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ …:} In this, there is a warning for those who, despite this definitive command, do not refrain from drinking alcohol and gambling. (Kabir)

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

The exegesis of this verse has been done along with the previous verse.

Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

92. And obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and beware (of such things) [137.1]. But if you turn away, then know that the duty of Our Messenger [138] is only to convey the message clearly.

[137۔1] That is, avoid those things whose prohibition has been mentioned in the previous verses, such as wine, gambling, reverence for altars, and divining by arrows, and if this command is taken in a general sense, then it would mean to avoid all evil deeds or to keep avoiding disobedience to Allah and His Messenger.
[138] From this verse, it is understood that although the method of obeying Allah is also obtained through obedience to the Messenger of Allah, nevertheless, the obedience to the Messenger has its own independent status. In other words, it is obligatory to follow both the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger, and according to the Quran, there is no difference in the obligation to follow both. The purpose of mentioning this verse at this point is that if you are unable to comprehend the benefits and harms of something, then the best course for you is to keep obeying Allah and His Messenger.
