You see many of them taking the disbelievers as their Auliyâ’ (protectors and helpers). Evil indeed is that which their ownselves have sent forward before them; for that (reason) Allâh’s Wrath fell upon them, and in torment they will abide.

(Ayah 80) ➊ {تَرٰىكَثِيْرًامِّنْهُمْ …… :} That is, this was the condition of the people before them, and now this is the condition of those who are present. (Kabir) Like Ka'b bin Ashraf and other individuals from the Jewish tribes of Madinah, who, in their enmity towards the Muslims, maintained friendship with the polytheists of Makkah and the hypocrites of Madinah.
➋ {لَبِئْسَمَاقَدَّمَتْلَهُمْاَنْفُسُهُمْ ……:} That is, by establishing friendship with the disbelievers (the polytheists of Makkah and the hypocrites of Madinah), the People of the Book have made preparations against the Muslims, the result of which is that in this world, Allah's wrath has descended upon them, and in the Hereafter, they have also become deserving of eternal punishment.

80. 1. This is the result of friendly relations with the disbelievers, that Allah became displeased with them, and the consequence of this displeasure is the eternal punishment of Hell.

80. You will see many of them befriending the disbelievers [126]. Evil indeed is what their souls have sent ahead for themselves, for Allah is displeased with them, and they will abide forever in punishment.
[126] The Jews’ Friendship with the Polytheists:
Here, the disbelievers refer to the polytheists, because these disobedient ones, transgressors, and those who do not forbid evil have already been declared disbelievers in the previous verse. The friendship of such Jews with the polytheists was also an inner effect of the curse that was placed upon them. The outward effect was that their forms were transformed, turning them into apes and swine, and the inner effect was that, despite believing in Allah, His Prophets, His Book, and the Day of Judgment, they formed friendships with people who neither believe in the Day of Judgment, nor in any book, nor in the Prophets. Rather, instead of following the teachings of the Prophets, they are devoted to idols and deities and worship them.
