The Table · Medinan · Juz 6 · Page 119

Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) "O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! You have nothing (as regards guidance) till you act according to the Taurât (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel), and what has (now) been sent down to you from your Lord (the Qur’ân)." Verily, that which has been sent down to you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) from your Lord increases in most of them (their) obstinate rebellion and disbelief. So be not sorrowful over the people who disbelieve.

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 68) ➊ {قُلْ يٰۤاَهْلَ الْكِتٰبِ لَسْتُمْ عَلٰى شَيْءٍ ……:} To establish the Torah and the Gospel means to fulfill the covenants taken from them in these books, to acknowledge the prophethood of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) according to the evidences present in these books regarding his advent, and to act upon the commands and limits of the Torah and the Gospel. The meaning is that if you do not act fully upon these books, then you have neither any status nor any religiosity. (Ibn Kathir) The same applies to Muslims: if they do not act fully upon the Quran, then they will have neither any status nor any religiosity.
{وَ لَيَزِيْدَنَّ كَثِيْرًا مِّنْهُمْ:} See the commentary of verse (64) of this Surah, note (3).
{فَلَا تَاْسَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكٰفِرِيْنَ:} Because whatever they are doing, they are only harming themselves and will bear the consequences themselves.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

68. 1. This guidance and misguidance is according to the principle that has been the Sunnatullah. That is, just as certain deeds and things increase the faith and affirmation, righteous deeds, and beneficial knowledge of the believers, in the same way, sins and rebellion increase disbelief and transgression. Allah Almighty has mentioned this subject in several places in the Noble Quran — "Say: This Quran is guidance and healing for the believers, and for those who do not believe, there is (deafness) in their ears and it is blindness for them. Because of the heaviness, it is as if they are being called from a distant place." "And We send down in the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers, but it increases the wrongdoers only in loss." (The Quran).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

68. Say: O People of the Book! You are on nothing (of the true religion) until you uphold the Torah, the Gospel, and what has been revealed to you from your Lord. And what has been revealed to you (O Prophet) [114] will surely increase many of them in rebellion and disbelief [115]. So do not grieve over the disbelieving people.

[114] It is clear from this that the real foundation of religion is only the Book of Allah or the revelation sent down from Allah. Therefore, by testing every belief and action against this criterion, a person can remain safe from misguidance. Thus, both the Jews and the Christians are being addressed and told that you should present your beliefs and actions before the Book revealed by Allah and decide for yourselves to what extent you are truthful in your claim of believing in it.
