وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ لَكَفَّرْنَا عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَلَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُمْ جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴿65﴾
And if only the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) had believed (in Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and warded off evil (sin, ascribing partners to Allâh) and had become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - See V.2:2) We would indeed have expiated from them their sins and admitted them to Gardens of pleasure (in Paradise).
وَلَوْ walaw And if
أَنَّ anna that
أَهْلَ ahla (the) People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ l-kitābi (of) the Book
ءَامَنُوا۟ āmanū (had) believed
وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ wa-ittaqaw and feared (Allah)
لَكَفَّرْنَا lakaffarnā surely We (would have) removed
عَنْهُمْ ʿanhum from them
سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ sayyiātihim their evil (deeds)
وَلَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُمْ wala-adkhalnāhum and surely We (would have) admitted them
جَنَّـٰتِ jannāti (to) Gardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِ l-naʿīmi (of) Bliss

65. 1. That is, the faith which Allah Almighty demands, the most important among them is to have faith in the messengership of Muhammad Rasulullah ﷺ, just as they have been commanded in the books revealed to them. "Wattaqu" — and to refrain from the disobedience of Allah, among which the most important is the shirk in which they are involved, and the denial which they have adopted regarding the Last Messenger.

65. If only the People of the Book had believed and been mindful of Allah [110], We would have surely removed their sins from them and admitted them into Gardens of bliss.

[110] That is, their well-being was in the fact that they should have abandoned such mischief and acts that cause turmoil and corruption, and embraced faith; then they would have received a double reward, as mentioned in the hadith: "Whoever from the People of the Book believes will receive a double reward—one for believing in his own prophet and book, and the second for believing in me and the Quran."
