Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to the people of the Scripture): "Shall I inform you of something worse than that, regarding the recompense from Allâh: those (Jews) who incurred the Curse of Allâh and His Wrath, and those of whom (some) He transformed into monkeys and swines, and those who worshipped Tâghût (false deities); such are worse in rank (on the Day of Resurrection in the Hell-fire), and far more astray from the Right Path (in the life of this world)."

Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 60)➊{ قُلْ هَلْ اُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِشَرٍّ مِّنْ ذٰلِكَ:} That is, in your opinion, we are evil, so you find fault with us and try to take revenge, but just reflect on your own history and have the courage to say something about your predecessors whose fate with Allah was far worse and will be far worse than what you claim about us. These were your own forefathers who, because of mocking the religion and committing various crimes, became subject to Allah’s curse and His wrath. Many of them (the People of the Sabbath) had their forms transformed and were turned into apes and swine, and those who went so far in obedience to Satan that they began to worship Taghut, like the calf made by Samiri, which was in fact the worship of Satan himself.

{اُولٰٓىِٕكَ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا وَّ اَضَلُّ عَنْ سَوَآءِ السَّبِيْلِ:} That is, no matter how much you call us misguided, you cannot deny that your forefathers were certainly misguided and their fate with Allah will be very bad.

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

60. 1. That is, you (O People of the Book!) are displeased with us, even though our only fault is nothing except that we believe in Allah, the Noble Quran, and the books revealed before it. Is this even a fault or a defect? That is, this is not something blameworthy or condemnable as you have assumed. In this regard, this is a disconnected exception. However, we will tell you who are the worst people and the most misguided, who are worthy of hatred and condemnation. Who are they? They are those upon whom Allah’s curse and His wrath descended, some of whom Allah turned into apes and swine, and those who worshipped Taghut. And in this mirror, look at your own face and character! Whose history is this and who are these people? Are these not you yourselves?

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

60. Say, "Shall I inform you of those who will have a worse outcome with Allah than that? They are those whom Allah has cursed and upon whom His wrath [102] has descended, and of whom He made some apes and swine, and those who worshipped the Taghut (false deities). Such are in a worse position and further astray from the right path."

[102]
The Jews Who Were Transformed into Apes and Swine:

That is, your ancestors were even worse than you. Time and again, they disobeyed Allah, which brought down Allah’s wrath upon them. Among them were some evil-doers who were transformed into apes and swine, and there were others who, instead of obeying Allah, followed rebellious powers and, because of them, committed grave crimes—even to the extent of unjustly killing and causing the killing of Prophets. In other words, your own misdeeds know no bounds, and on top of that, you show such brazenness that if another group believes in Allah, practices true piety, and displays good character, you relentlessly pursue them.
