Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

(Ayah 24) {قَالُوْا يٰمُوْسٰۤى اِنَّا لَنْ نَّدْخُلَهَاۤ اَبَدًا …… :} Those two men had said that you people should just enter the gate to attack them, that is, according to Allah’s promise and glad tidings, as soon as you enter, the enemy will flee. But they uttered an extremely insolent statement: “Go, you and your Lord fight; we will sit right here.” In contrast, at the time of Badr, despite the sudden confrontation with battle, the Companions of the Messenger (peace be upon him) demonstrated utmost determination, courage, and steadfastness. Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Miqdad bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) said on the day of Badr: “O Messenger of Allah! We will not say to you as the Children of Israel said to Musa (peace be upon him): «فَاذْهَبْ اَنْتَ وَ رَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَاۤ اِنَّا هٰهُنَا قٰعِدُوْنَ» Rather, we say, you go forth and we are with you.” Upon hearing this, it seemed that all the worries of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) disappeared. [ بخاری، التفسیر، باب قولہ : «فاذهب أنت وربك فقاتلا» : ۴۶۰۹ ]

Tafsir Ahsan al-Bayan is a well-known Quran commentary by Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. This tafsir explains the meanings of the Quran in accordance with the methodology of the Salaf (early righteous generations), relying on authentic sources and straightforward language. Due to its reliability and adherence to sound Islamic scholarship, the Saudi government publishes and distributes this tafsir among the Hujjaj (pilgrims) visiting the Haramain. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

24. 1. But despite this, the Children of Israel displayed the worst cowardice, disrespect, and rebellion, saying: "You and your Lord go and fight." In contrast, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ consulted the noble companions at the time of the Battle of Badr, they expressed strong determination to participate in jihad despite their small numbers and limited resources, and then said: "O Messenger of Allah! We will not say to you as the people of Musa said to Musa (عليه السلام)" (Sahih Bukhari).

Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

24. The people said, "O Moses! As long as those mighty people remain there, we will never enter it. So you and your Lord go and fight; we will sit here."

The Response of Bani Israel to Musa ؑ Regarding Jihad:

But this nation, which had lived for a long time in the slavery of the Pharaohs and worshipped the calf instead of Allah, had become so faint-hearted and cowardly that they addressed Musa ؑ, saying that as long as those people do not leave, we will never go there, nor are we ready to knowingly throw ourselves into destruction. If you are so insistent on jihad, then go—you and your Lord—go and confront them; we will not go any further from here.
