Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim — Hafiz Abdus Salam Bin Muhammad Bhutvi
Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim is a 4-volume Quran commentary by Hafiz Abdus Salam bin Muhammad Bhutvi, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar and Sheikh ul-Hadith from Pakistan. Based on over 45 years of teaching and research, this tafsir follows the methodology of Tafsir bil-Ma'thur — interpreting the Quran through authentic Hadith, statements of the Companions, and the understanding of the early generations (Salaf). It is distinguished by its complete avoidance of Israeliyyat (Judeo-Christian narratives) and unverified reports. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.
(Ayah 16) The meaning of {قُلْاَتُعَلِّمُوْنَاللّٰهَبِدِيْنِكُمْ …: ’’ تُعَلِّمُوْنَ ‘‘ ’’عَلَّمَيُعَلِّمُتَعْلِيْمًا‘‘} (taf‘īl) is to teach or to instruct. Teaching is the strongest and most solid way of telling someone something. Since they repeatedly claimed to have faith and to be religious, Allah Almighty, considering their repeated claims as teaching, said: Are you going to teach Allah that you are true believers and religious, and do you think that He does not know the state of your hearts? Whereas Allah knows everything in the heavens and everything on the earth, and Allah is fully aware of everything. In this verse, the noteworthy point is the repeated mention of the word {’’ اللّٰهَ ‘‘}: «قُلْاَتُعَلِّمُوْنَاللّٰهَبِدِيْنِكُمْوَاللّٰهُيَعْلَمُمَافِيالسَّمٰوٰتِوَمَافِيالْاَرْضِوَاللّٰهُبِكُلِّشَيْءٍعَلِيْمٌ » The purpose of mentioning His own name repeatedly is to instill a sense of His awe and greatness, so that you realize that by repeatedly claiming faith, you are not teaching an ordinary being, but the Creator and Master of the universe, whose name is "Allah" and from whom nothing is hidden.

16. 1 Ta'leem, here is in the meaning of knowledge and information, that is, by saying آمَنَّا are you informing Allah of your religion and faith? Or are you telling Allah the condition of your hearts?
16. 2 So is He not aware of the condition of your hearts or the reality of your faith?

16. Say to them (the Bedouins): "Are you informing Allah of your religion [26], while Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth? And Allah is All-Knowing of everything."
[26] These people came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said that they had accepted Islam, but their acceptance of Islam was like greeting the rising sun. By accepting Islam, they sought to protect their lives and wealth and to claim a share of the spoils of war. In response, Allah Almighty said that the way you are accepting Islam, Allah knows it well, and He is also aware of the motives for which you are accepting it.
